An alternative?
Just browsing similar stuff and came accross this one...

http://www.pyrenees.co.uk/2005%20Web.../traverse.html
Could be fun... No tour guides, just a booklet with the route and they've booked all accomodation. Just have a group of mates finding their way along the route together... £125 per vehicle plus £230 per person. Looks far more flexible... (and bonded company!!!)
Plus they say they'd arrange bespoke holiday for a group if requested?
Just a thought...It's a 3rd Gen thing...

I can see this splintering into two trips.
Personally I'm sticking with Peter's trip. I'd rather travel that far and go with someone who KNOWS the good trails than risk not finding them and wasting time wandering around on tarmac missing the trails known to be good. This guy has a lot of experience running this route, and knows the place like the back of his hand.
Pete (4Runner) has been on several trips with Atlas and reckons they've been fantastic, and if you've seen Pete's truck, he doesn't mess around with his offroading!
Regarding 'guided' trips, done 'em before and its worth it. I doubt I'd have stumbled across the Bryncrug route by accident (it was a guided run), and thats one of the best / toughest green lanes I know.Cutting steps in the roof of the world

I think that the suggestion from Nina was more to look at options, rather than replace the previously organised trip. My concern for the Atlas trip is several fold:
We have gone from 'we will develop a bespoke trip for you' to 'you'll be following the routes we do all the time, with a little extra' and getting from it's £445 to that plus £275 for single suppliment - so for me because due to commitments throughout the year, Nina would not be able to come with me, I'd need to spend £670 for this - plus fuel and ferry, as I won't find someone between now and Sunday that is interested in driving offroad for 14 days and has a spare £180 odd.
Sorry to say, but value for money, and overall appeal of two weeks without Nina - I won't be going on this one - but will be happy to talk to Pete on Sunday to see what other trips they do - and get some ideas on how to run our own, perhaps......Too old to care, young enough to remember

I figured that I'll need at least a roofrack to carry enough gear for 2-3 weeks on the road, and tbh, I'd prefer a trailor, but that may well be beyond my megre budget, and my mechanical knowledge.
I reckon the best bet is a cut down pickup ( the rear bed with an A frame fitted with tow ball etc) with a truckman type hard top, as that'll hold loads of gear, tents, food, water and fuel, but the 2.4 may have trouble pulling it across the mountains, as it'll weigh almost as much as the surf once it's loaded.
Any thoughts on the subject guys and gals???
Edit; Just found this, looks just the job, but I couldn't see a price for it ( just as well really)

I've been thinking about the kit we'll need, and I reckon its better to split the load (spares / tools / essential equipment in particular) between the four Surfs currently going.
I'm gonna use my rack for camping kit and lighter weight stuff, plus maybe a couple of jerrycans for fuel for the longer stints, and hopefully build in some lockers in the back for clothes and day to day items.
Anyway, like I say, it's probably best if we keep an eye on what each of us is taking so we dont have to much pointless duplication and uneccessary extra weight.Cutting steps in the roof of the world
