I've been toying with building something similar in to the back of mine. Thanks for posting that up, looks great and has inspired me!

      What do ya reckon Boyo??
All I was intending to do was a complete fluids change (ATF, diffs etc) and filters change. Grease every nipple, climb every mountain, change every belt and join Green Flag or some such.

As Apache says - anything could let go - so I didn't think it was worth trying to pack in too many spares.

EDIT - Oh yeah, hoses - I think I'll change them all and take the old ones as a back up. The truck will have gone way past 300,000km's by the time we get out there so hoses would be worth me sorting anyway.

Have a search or PM/email him - he's not been on for a while though

Might be a good time to see who does the best cover for where we're going? For some reason 'Green Flag' springs to mind. Anyone confirm that?
Don't know bout Green Flag Andy, but ya might try Britania Rescue as they recover from Abroad .... Sure BDT with be able to confirm Good or Bad who does or don't .

I'm with AA at the mo, and have been for years. I'll give them a bell first and ask if they do it.

Another thing. I have a triband vodaphone PAYG phone. Will that work in France / Spain, or am I better taking the missus' (pink) contract vodaphone one?

Just been listing the things I need to do in the next 16 months...

New belts (aircon / alt NOW - cambelt later)
                          New front shocks
New rad (next year - this ones weeping - dont wanna climb mountains with a less than perfect rad)
Fit roofrack - when the weather improves
Finish intercooler - when the weather improves
                          Service viscous fan
                          Fit 33" BFG ATs
                          Replace rear brakes
Replace rear wheel bearings (as a precaution)
                          Fix CB
Fit permanent PC for webcam / memory map

                          Flippin eck!

Dave the co-driver is more excited now that GWH was berfore his first trip to Wales!!!

The you've got a long 16 months ahead of you!

Ref. the mechanical stuff above - I can help with most of that - fitted a replacement rad yesterday, done all the brakes, calipers and front/rear wheel bearings in the last two months.

Andy, I would seriously consider fitting a tranny cooler - I've been amazed at how much cooler the engine is off road since I fitted mine.

I'm bidding for one on FeeBay at the mo. Sold the last one I bought cos it had very strange fittings on it that no-one could work out!

I've done the rad once on my truck a couple of years ago, with a cheapo one just to get me out of a hole. I'll fit a proper Toyota one later this year / early next year as this one is weeping in a few places, only a little bit but enough for me not to have confidence in it for a 3000 mile round trip through France!

Wheel bearings - if you fancy it, you're welcome to come and 'spanner away' with me and Dave one weekend when the weather is warmer and more conducive to post-spannering beer & BBQ. Either that, or when I go see 'our man in Basingstoke' in october for my MOT, I'll ask him to do it.
