Shame there doesn't appear to be anything like this for the Surf.
As soon as I can get hold of a second hand bonnet really cheap I gonna have a go at modifiying it. It shouldn't be that difficult, as the Surf bonnet already has the raised section in the middle, just run the disc cutter along the crease lines, bend it up and weld long wedge shaped pieces of sheet steel in the gaps. Then spot weld the bracing under neath to retain the rigidity.

at certain revs whilst accelerating with the fan locked though, or is that
just mine? BTW, managed to find a pic of one of those compatible slimline
viscous fan clutch assemblies:

The second link just has some general sad bits:

well the surf is nearly up for sale, yesterday i went over to Frodsam by chester 65 mile trip , sat at 75-80 all the way and the fecking thing got hot again on a long up hill (rhuallt hill by holywell ) only prob with this is i didnt have the caravan on the back and i have spent a week of evenings under the bonnet fetling, new pump, tested and cleaned rad and so on.
i guess as the electric fan only comes on when needed, so when it is needed the heat build up has already started and the fan has one hell of a job to bring it back down as a viscous is semi working all the time the heat build up is not as severe. kenlowe sell them as an upgrade from viscous, i think the good old blade bolted onto water pump was the simplest and best.
so Kenlowe are to get one $$$$edoff customer calling tomorrow, and im now on the scrounge for a loan viscous to try before i buy, if it fails then you guys will hear no more from me......................hurah i hearSurf.gone but not forgottendisco now gone aswell

John, I've just been looking at your previous posts, and I've noticed that you drive everywhere at 80mph! You've got a 2.4 and they don't like it very much and this is what's causing you overheat problem.

It's a shame I don't live closer John, or I would be over there and sort your truck out. It's frustrating me now, and I feel that it's something really simple to sort out. The problems you're having don't make sense to me after all that money you've thrown at it, it should be running as sweet as a nut!

the strangest thing is when i drained the sytem of fluid i noticed that i was getting a mix of antifreezes coming out, ie the system aint curculating proply, so i really thought the pump change would sort it but alas.
i is starting to think its the head/block water ways have a restriction/blockage
this would explain a lot but i am not stripping her down to find out.Surf.gone but not forgottendisco now gone aswell

effort, (and grief). Have you tried lowering the temperature at which
the fan kicks in? Did the chap at the dealers not manage to find one
to loan you? What did you do to the cooling sytem over the last few
days? We know the rad has been checked and the pump replaced,
and I assume you flushed the cooling system. Any other servicing
or alterations?
With regards to the viscous fan, I can't resist a scr*pyard delve to
see if there are any fans with the same mounting that might be
comparable or better than the original, so will let you know if I find
anything suitable. I definitely wouldn't give up yet if I were you.
Stressing it may be, but it'll be worth it when she's back on top form.
It can't be impossible to improve the cooling on these old girls.
