make sure they are rated, otherwise one of us could have a very nasty encounter with your shackle...

and recovery straps aren't that much either... if you are gonna go in deep water, ideally you want to go in prepared to be pulled out, rather than sliding off the bonnet as you try and attach the strap/shackle underwater!

tow ball recovery is really for emergencies imho. chance of it slipping off in mud is quite high... unless you do the wrap around "knot" but still not the best way of recovering.

i dont have a bracket below like that i dont think, i have the A bar with a front tow bar behind that and the 2 small hook thingys. but no mounting point there iirc. ill have a look in a bit.

before i buy anything tho i best wait for bio to confirm.

p.s, can you attach anywhere else?

should the tow strap have hooks on the end or hoops?

You should have 2 tie down points on the front. if need be, you bridge these if you need a good tug!
My LHS shqckle goes onto the recovery hook ( bolted to chassis just behind the tie downs) when i'm using it, but usually i just leave the shackles on the tie down points.
Straps should have loops. anything open ended ie a hook, can again be dangerous if it comes off. better to have loops and shackles imho. everthing is closed.

right got you, i think the front tow bar is stealing the holes for the shackles, i mat have to rip the tow bar off, but get a feeling that if i do it will be needed.

thanks bud you have been really helpful.

                      p.s is a 4 tonne strap sufficient?
well, that was a bad idea!

                            this is what i got.
                            http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4x4-10mtr-...item23189cefeb

10 metres is over kill, but it puts a nice distance between you and the 2 tonne lump you are trying to pull towards you... also means you can double it back to the tie down points if necessary...
