Also as time goes on the car revs higher and becomes slower. Points me to the gearbox.
definitely sounds like it ran too dry and seized.
really unfortunate, what you going to do? time to do your manual conversion?
well, that was a bad idea!

Chris had his bonnet up every time we stopped . and Alex was topping up his autobox .... the one that went bang on the way back to Bristol ....at a guess it's the front oil seal on the gearbox.Even the 3rd gen had to have a running repair as the pin that hold the front break pads in had stared to come out as the retainer on the back had broken .

      Pics to follow
You are more than welcome, another great trip out.
I hope John and Alec get back ok.
Happy to report no dramas other than a loose spot light.
The new hd rear springs worked out much better than I expected it was so nice to be able to go down the rutted sections and not be bottoming out all the time.
Once again thanks to Ian and co. for organising the trip out and leading the way.

      • I'll have a look soon. Make sure it's not seized up. Then order me some seals. Need some work over summer and the last of my student loan to start having fun.

        • Got back for half eight...
worked out i've saved £40 in fuel, having a "lift" back, which will go some way to offset the replacement alternator if it doesn't dry out...
Think I got off lightly by the sound of things, mind you having followed the tail out happy lead footer, i'm not surprised he's got no box left....

          • John glad you got back ok ...... and that you enjoyed a dry plain .... come back when it's wet and you will enjoy that more.

It will be a bit more extreme then as the first gen will be running. (i hope)

definitely, might bring a spare alternator as well - they seem to be "consumables" on our trucks...

Whilst waiting at the petrol station for my lift back, some Land Rover boys turned up, luckily I didn't have my bonnet up, so I just smiled. I think they were quite impressed with how much of the plains I was trying to take home with me....!

Ohh dear ... there's exceptions to every rule

Or maybe the 2.4 owners were more cautious

How did you manage to kill another alternator?

Bugger! I missed this trip - If anyone is organising another trip at some point I'd be up for it

                              • Okay reality check 2.4'ers

How many of you went through the 2nd of those mud baths at the bottom of the hill where the Landys and Bikers were playing?

You know, the one Bio avoided?

I know the answer, I just want to hear it from you load of pansies....

Being up to the top of the bonnet in Salisbury mud was probably a little too adventurous for my alternator though....
