  • Personally, I wouldn't want to hit trails new to me with a trailer behind me...

Rob, what about a roof rack if you feel you're gonna be short of space? Just put lighter stuff up there then its not gonna mess with your CoG either. Not that a spare wheel and a few jerry cans is gonna have much effect when you think that the weight of your chassis, four wheels, gearbox and engine is all lower than the waterline!

Bet you have caravan fetishes too dont you...

Hehehe, I was a boy scout don't ya know, and therefore like to be prepared ( or over prepared even) but I guess you're right, a roof rack to get the tent and some of the bulky items out of the vehicle will probably work ok, remember I'll have Harley with me, so him and his food (which I will have to bring with) will take up most of the rear, ( and with extra fuel and water I reckon about 200 KG )and that only leaves the rear seats for everything else.

I'll have to have a propper sort out of what I "need" to take and have a couple of dry runs to make it fit, and easily accessable whilst travelling.

      • The last time I went to the Pyrenees there was a Land Rover 90 towing a trailer and the guy managed to tip it on its side it did that much damage to the rear of the 90 that he was transported back to the UK on the back of a recovery vehicle

I guess I'll give the trailer a miss then, and get a roof basket of some sort, and just travel lighter

          • Spare fuel uneccessary according to Atlas. Plenty of fuel stops, and cheaper derv over there. Probably cheaper than veg oil the way things are going!

            • I'll still keep 1 jerry can (20ltr) on board, ( boy scout) as you never know if you'll develope a fuel problem/leak at any time, or have to make an unscheduled detour.

anyways, trailer out, roofrack in ( maybe) and also what I'd like to know, is are there any small items, such as sensors, that would stop the surf dead, and be difficult to get abroad??

                  • Interesting idea - the next mod would be to bolt a 'roof mounted' tent onto the new trailer lid.

                    Mmmmmmmmm...........

                    • Dont you need to bolt on a working diff first?

NAH - 4WD is over rated!

OK - yes - but I think I'll fit lockers to both once I can afford to fix it.

                        • I think it was Sancho posted up something about auto lockers from Oz for about $250. Seemed like a bargain. I think I'd only bother with front though as these trucks dont really have articulation problems at the rear.

Well due to credit crunch etc I won't be able to afford to go on this trip, I've paid my deposit, so if someone want's to take my place, and it's possible for the orgasnisers to allow the change then let me know.
