Help. Where do I go now!!!!

It's roughly the same amount of work to change from a 2.4 engine for a 3.0 as it is to install a 1UZFE.

i disagree vince.
the surf breaker near me has done this swap quite a few times.he and his oppo rip out the 2.4 engine ,gearbox and dash.
the transplant of a 3.0 litre takes approximately 2 hours and the refitment of dash and new loom takes them about 2 days. total job time on the last one i saw was 3 days, and it cost the owner £700 quid for the engine and another £600 ish in labour.

OK then, it's cheaper to get a 3.0 fitted at that blokes yard.
Same amount of work though.

but now you have done a lexus v8 swap and are aware of all the potential pitfalls..how long,realistically, could you do another one in ??

If I had all the parts before I started, (V8/trans sitting on the bench ready to go in, oil filter relocation kit rad hoses etc) about 7 days.

I know nothing of electrics would love to know about the loom, how the 4wd is hooked up ect Im with Andy I would pay for a build cd.

I'm actually drawing up a simple wiring diagram for a guy in Alabama at the moment.
The Surf loom is discarded along with the engine and the Lexus loom is used.
Re: 4WD, the transfer case bolts directly onto the back of the Lexus trans. after lobbing 2" off the output shaft.
I doing this modification for 4WD.

Aggree with that, i'd pay for a blow by blow write up for dummys on fitting the lexus or even the 3lt oil burner, that work you've done is awesome mate,
not sure my brain could cope with the electricle side of it, it'd only happen if i came into some money tho and the only way that'll happen is if i spank the monkey into some folding

I've now stripped off the head and found no visible cracks in the head or block, if i am getting gasses in the water then the cracks would be in a visible place, More than likely, but what i did find was the gasket had rust marks along one edge on the inlet side, right next to the bores, i have also noticed that the elongated water holes in the block and head do not appear in the gasket, could this be a gasket or head bolt concern? is it the right gasket.

Did you clean out and dry the bolt holes when you re-fitted the head? Looks to me like the gasket hasn't sealed properly.

Does the gasket look like the one you took of? I assume you did check the gasket against the old one!

The head and block were cleaned off with a gasket scraper then alcohol wipe, it was then blown off before fitting with compressed air as were all the head bolt holes these were first soaked in a industrial degrease/cleaner, again they were blown out before fitting the new bolts, yest the gasket looks the same as the old one apart from the discoloration.

incidentally i have had my torque wrench checked and that to is within tolerances.

I had the same problem on mine it was lifted and they had not dropped the rad! so had air locks in the system when took it fo a run evey time it would overheat! try filling the last bit from the pipe at the rear of the engine bay best way i could get all the air out or as you say fit a blead valve!!

i had the same thing when i got mine back from a garage. it seems there are a lot of people out there that wing it.

mine was a combination of air lock and sticky thermostat
sometimes the heater would go cold but engine temp gauge go very warm, but a free rev of the engine immediately made the heater HOT and the engine back to normal temp

and after i bled the system for like 2 hours, i thought all was cured but then a month later some strange thing happened. so i was advised to change the thermostat, which took 5 mins on the 2.4 and ever since ive had no problems.


if the stat hasnt been changed yet it might be worth it anyway, as its only £15. unless it has been done recently :S
