Just as a guide Roy i had a 3.0L head p/tested skimmed and rebuilt ready for refitting and all in it cost me £265.They had to strip the head right down aswell mind as i couldn't be bothered

Just been out and checked again, it has a 0.05mm dip along both axis.

I think we have found the problem. looks like the head is warped

i would of thought just for it to be skimmed then it would be about £50 but someone should know for sure tho.Give an engine company local to you a ring Roy and they should tell you

Just took it down to Spot Auto Engineering in derby, they will have it done within the hour and will be £30 + VAT total £35.25, not to bad at all

Well the head has now been skimmed and is waiting for collection, ill not be able to get it until tomorrow, well the wife will fetch it, ill be in bed, just waiting for the head gasket and bolts from RoughTrax and I'm away.

good find roy, but what andy meant by dipping the bolt holes....make sure there is NO liquid of any description in the head bolt holes.liquid is practically incompressible and could fool you into thinking the bolts are up tight when they aint !!!

and as for the warped head...good luck mate.the older bedfords and ford d series used to warp their heads..things looked like a see saw !!..but bolting it back down used to sort em out !!
