    Where do I go now!!!!

So most of you will know I have been having a few problems since my new head was fitted, I am loosing water, around about 2 litres a day on short journeys, I have no evidence of leaks, no white marks or anything like that, no steam out of the engine bay, there is no white smoke or water in the oil or oil in the water.

I have tried to bleed the radiator, parked up hill over night and a few other methods, If I run the engine on the drive all seems fine, on the road it will get up to temp in less than 2 minutes (is this normal?) when I park up I can see no steam or drips on the floor.

Took her out for a 10 mile drive and she started to overheat, managed to keep the heat below the red and when I parked up the expansion tank was full and the engine was empty it took 8 litres to fill it back up.

So my questions are where do I go next:

1 Could this be a simple case of a good flush and refill, I’m fitting the bleed/fill pipes on the heater matrix pipes tomorrow, if I fill this way then do I stand a chance of getting all the air out and could this be the problem (trapped air allowing the water to turn to steam and creating high pressure, pushing it out of the expansion tank)??
2 Could I still have a head problem? Although it is a new head
3 Could it be a leak somewhere else that I cant see (checked carpets are dry)
4 Or am I missing the point completely and barking up the wrong tree?

Need as much help as possible as time is running out for my truck as I need a car soon (that’s one that works). !!!!!

I had the same problem on mine it was lifted and they had not dropped the rad! so had air locks in the system when took it fo a run evey time it would overheat! try filling the last bit from the pipe at the rear of the engine bay best way i could get all the air out or as you say fit a blead valve!!

Yes I agree but I seem to get no steam out of the exhaust (I got steam last time “big time”) but yes that seems to be one of the next steps after a pipe and clip change where possible, ill bypass the cabin heater matrixes and see how that goes first.

I’ve tried with the engine running but it seems to push water back out the rad top, so that could be air getting out as it heats up, there is no little bubbles like I had when the head had gone, just a big bubble now and then, new rad cap, thermostat and radiator fitted

I’m with you, I think it will be a 3 litre but at the moment I have no money, Christmas is coming and I need a cheap run around

. When the engine is stone cold, set both heaters to hot, top up coolant and leave overnight with the rad cap off. All air should find it's way out by morning.

Tried that and parked uphill kept poping out through the night and topping up, it was full ish in the morning but when i used it for work the next day i had to fill it up before i could come home.

It started no problems, that morning and had no smoke from the exhaust.

agreed that does sound a little quick but that would not account for the loss of coolant.

it would cause it would get hot quick, then engine side would find sumwhere to vent, and at pressure would only be a wisp of steam,so no drips,id temporarily whip it out,see how truck is on a run then go from there

Sounds like the head/water might be leaking into the combustion chamber or chambers.
Are the water pipes very hard when she is running. The engine would make the pressure in the cooling system high and the pipes would be very firm.

Is she running a little rough?
Hold your hand over the tail pipe for a few secs is your plam damp?
Start her on a cool night look for steam in the exhaust gases.

my guess is, 1) that you have split a pipe and is ####ing out when under preasure or 2) pipes are blocked with crap or 3) the new head is also ####ed. when my head went it gave no sign other than it getting hot. there was no steam nothing.
