    • Glad to hear things are progressing well, Ian. Polished nickel
is nice. I hate chrome plate, but I do like the nickel plate. It seems
to age far better than chrome. There's no such thing as useless
bling. They crashed it 'cos they were jealous.

Those are the correct types of fan you're thinking of. If anybody
wants some to put to any use, give us a shout. I'm having to be
brutal and clear out some of my workshop hoard again. Wife's
orders. They are freebies if anybody wants them.

Also, tasteful choice of colour. Blue looks good in the engine
bay. What's worse, though, is that I mentioned to the wife the other
day, (bet the wife loves it now I can bore you lot again instead of her),
, about colour coding the mods depending upon which part of the
Surf they are going. Blue = engine bay, luminous yellow = underneath,
      etc.

            • John, if your rad is a bit iffy, might be worthwhile having it recored.
Mine wasn't the original rad, so I don't know how mine differed from
the original Surf rad, but the new core I've had put in mine is a tad
beefier than the one that was in. The core is now the full depth of
the header tank. It's a three core. I believe it's the core for a Toyota
              Landcruiser.

Triumph didn't take any chances then. Is the original Surf rad a two
                  core, then?

The Triumph Stag had cylinder head problems too, they kept warping!

It's amazing how many makes of vehicle seem to suffer from some
sort of head problem. Browsing different sites, (trying to get my daily
tech/mod fix whilst we've been offline), , it seems to be a fairly
frequently occuring weak point. At least Surf's only blow theirs once,
unlike some other makes of vehicle.

                          • whlst i was chatting with kenlowe technical this morningi asked the question what tow cars dont over heat, te answer was none really they all do
especilly 4x4's disco's are one of the worst as lr say they can tow a 3 ton braked trailer in reality they can but only on the flat, and the caravanners favourite the volvo has wiring already installed for addional cooling fans. vehicls are not desgigned to tow from standard, unless you are lucky enough to have a patrol 4.2 or a land cruiser 4.2 or the like

                            • It's trying to weigh up the pro's and con's of each part of the system
that is the problem. Whenever you ask someone's advice, they all
have a different opinion of what works and what doesn't. That's why
I have now gone for the option of suck it and see. Only way to find
out for definite is to give it a whirl and see whether it works or not. I'm
trying to decide at the moment whether to go for an ATF cooler or not.
Keep getting conflicting opinions on those as well.
                              Decisions, decisions.

Sorry to hear about all the problems you've been having, John.
Let us know what the outcome with your radiator is. With regards
to adding an extra electric cooling fan, couldn't that possibly lead to
restriction of air to the rad when the fan(s) aren't turned on?

                              • I'm gonna' have to get a life. 2:15 in the morning and I'm looking
at bonnet vents. Some of these do look rather sexy, though:
