    thanks guys.
i had another wee look at it this afternoon. checked the oil level and condition. seems ok. checked the coolant in the expansion tank and seemed low so topped it up. started it up and it fired first time with no smoke. ran it for a few minutes and still no smoke.

i wont be able to get the head off until at least next weekend now so i guess ill just have to be patient for now.

    thanks again for the replies.

hi bud, been following your post, the same happened to me on my old truck and then the misses rolled it onto its roof so i now have the 2.8non turbo head that you require to sort yours out sitting in my garage, i dont want alot for it but if you need it you can have it for £80 as its getting in the way!

anyway hope thats of some help and good luck!!

        hi chewee,
thanks for the offer. that sounds unfortunate for you but a great deal for me.
hope the missus wasnt hurt when it rolled!!

im a little confused though as mine is a 2.4 with turbo how can i use a 2.8 non turbo head?

edit - i see youve offered the head to other members as well. let me know if its sold.

go for the non turbo head as that is what you will be getting as a modded head. the engine on the 2.8 is basically the same only bored out the heads do interchange but no probs on the 2.8 also the cam profile and lift on the 2.8 is different but with that cam they go better on the road, they rev better with it.

Actually it's "Terry Syd" on the Aussie forum that has done some experimenting with the 3L cam. I don't know any more than what he has posted. Note that you will only get a 3L cam with a complete head. Most just buy the bare head and transfer the original cam over.

It's certainly probable, but what makes you so sure your head's gone?

If it seems OK at the moment, I think it's worth at least getting a sniffer test done before you go to the grief of getting the head off and fitting a new one.

im not sure the head has gone but it certainly looks that way.
after another run out last night the white smoke has returned and it overheats within a few miles.

                    whats a sniffer test?

edit - ignore me...found out what it is after a quick search,

Yeah did one of those on mine, passed - now today its spat its dummy out an had to get the AA to trailer it to the garage, head or gasket gone (or both).
How can I be lost when I've got no where to go

ok so on swapping the head out...

if i get a complete head from chewee what else do i need to buy to do the job?
ive figured head gasket and head bolts. are there any other gaskets etc that i need?

ill do the timing belt as well so if theres anything ive missed id be grateful of a heads up.

get the head gasket kit from rough trx, then u have every gasket, dont forget tensioner and pulley, also a water pump, but not strictly needed, but if anything like the 3.0,its a biatch to get to,so i did mine while i could get to it,won't hurt to get a new stat aswell?
