    ticking noise

hi if it is coming from the drivers side, it would be very possible that it could be the turbo, or turbo fan. you could check the turbo fan by taking the house of and looking at the fan to ensure that the fan is not touching the sides. robandsurf australia

The 3l head is not on the 2.4 surfs
The 3l head is the 2.8 hilux head which toyota then swapped to because they are a better head than the standard 2.4 heads.
hi in regards to you coment about the 3l head not on a surf, i had my head done at an engine rebuild shop here in queensland australia, and they replaced it with the after market heavier head, and when i surched other work shops and i went to at least 3 others they all quoted for the after market 3l head. if you are aware of it being other please help me and give me other advise so i know for future. also would you be able to help me solve another problem. i still seem to get a bit hot with the temp when she goes on the beach and up big hills esp with the air con. new head. no loss of water. new viscus fan. radiator rebuilt engine chemicaly cleaned. in the australian warm weather is there a solution to this problem i have just installed a temp reading gage to monitor temp as well. thanks robandsurf

Hi Rob The 3L 2.8litre head is what is fitted to the pick-ups
Unless i misread your post which i apologise for its just alot of people get mixed up with the 2.8 3L and 3Litre thats what i was trying to say but i don't think it came across as i meant it to.
The 3L 2.8 head is the stronger head and thats what was fitted to surfs before Toyota stopped building the 2.4's and as a replacement head there after when the heads blew.
regards the hot temps it might help to fit an ATF cooler to help keep the temps down a bit and maybe fix in an aux fan so you can have on a switch so when the temp starts to creep up you can put the fan on before it gets to high.HTH
Have a good xmas and happy new year

          surf heating

thanks for the head up date stormforce, had the auto box cooler installed yesterday,so will see what happens, the auto specialist noticed that the surf is very slow on take of, but as it has allways been like that since i owned it i had no idea. he felt the vacum hoses was wrong and thanks to this forum i found the vacum diagrams to give him to follow. a couple of hoses was loose and in wrong place, pick up little better, he thinks now it is either map sensor or the injector pump needs timing, as it is only getting started that is sluggish. thanks all and happy new year from robandsurf australia.

Happy new Year Rob and to any other Aussie members looking in.
Its supprising how many people get these heads mixed up really. So many think the 3L is the 3.0Litre and when you try to explain your just hitting your head against a brick wall.
Try changing the glowplugs Rob as that will probably help before messing with the f/pump timing. There's been alot of trucks and mine included thats had the same symptoms until it refuses to start at all and fit new glow plugs and everything is ok
