    Bew Head bolts

Received a "New" set of head bolts today.
But they look like a set of rejects, head flutes hardley defined and the length is about 2 mil longer than my old ones.

They are all nicely black with no obvious evidence that they have been used but I am not so sure. (bought of Ebay)

Anyone tell the length of a stretched bolt is or am I missing the point somewhere???
    John

            Thanks

            Thanks for the password.
Thats a mean machine you have there, you must spend all your spare time on it. If you are married or have a partner make sure you hang on to her cuz she is priceless, I would never be allowed to spend as much time or money as you obviously do. Well done.

I think my pump is at the same angle as yours, Will try it and see I can always move it if it dont run right.

I have told the guy I bought the bolts off I want a refund, they are crap. I would rather use my originals.

Sat the head back on this afternoon, then spent a couple of hours working out where all the bits fit.

            Fingers crossed.

            John

              Veggie Rust protection

As you know I have had a veggie leak for sometime.
The beast has been off the road for a week or so while I sort it and the head out and was crawling round underneath to drain the oil and I noticed that I now have a goodly thick layer of veggie under the front end which has now dried to a very thick sticky coating.
If trying to wash the stuff off my drive is anything to go by this coating is very waterproof.
Perhaps this stuff is better and cheaper than waxoyl.

                    Bugger.... Help

Yes Popeye, but the underside of your truck is cleaner than an operating theatre.
                    mine is dirty and sticky.

Put the head back on this afternoon and was doing "the tighten each bolt one quarter turn more after torquing to 78nm", got to the last bolt and CRACK the thread has stripped in the block on bolt 18 ( right next to the bulkhead).

Anyone got any clues as to what I do next, head will be lifted again tomorrow.

                    John

                            Dikslecsik

                            Told you I was dikslecsiccc

Further to my head problems ( the one on my Surf for a change) I have found out that the offending bolt hole has an additional 10mm of unused thread.

A quick test with the torque wrench says this will hold up to 78nm plus a quarter turn, not sure I will chance the next quarter turn though.
So anyone know where I can get an engine bolt at least 10mm longer than the longest ones.

The guy on Ebay has refunded the money I paid for the crap bolts I bought he does'nt even want the olduns back which I thought was good.

                              Veggie Filler

                              Hi Popeye.
Spent all last night looking at the build Blizzard did in Spain, then got hooked looking at videos of Surf types on youtube.

I have started making a copy of his two hole filler, cutting the pipes is not as easy as it looks. I used a piece of stainless pipe off an old vacuum cleaner braized to the the original filler.
The outcome is no where near as smart as Blizzards but will be functional, far better than my original idea of cutting a new filler hole in the body.

Dose'nt matter what it looks like John, it's inside the wing, as long as it's fuel tight and dont leak, i mean theres no pressure on it or owt, post some pics mate, connecting to the old filler is the worst bit i'd imageine, the rest could be done in silicon hose, i'll get round to haveing a go at it sometime,
hope the prob with the head bolt works ok,
