Take one scoop (Trooper), one intercooler (Warrior), some pipes, cut a great big hole in your bonnet (give the jigsaw to Linda), throw away some bits of the existing engine, stick most of it back together, and........

Voila, a top mounted intercooler. And I can put oil in. And I can get to the dip stick!

Still not mounted mine 'cos I refuse to pay stupid money for silicone hoses. The hole is cut out and the scoop fitted, as soon as I find an alternative hose system, mine will be on.



ps. I like your style, getting someone else to cut your bonnet so you'll have someone to blame if it goes wrong.

Not really tested it yet - drove about 10 miles to make sure nothing was gonna blow off etc. Then had the required beverage (ahhhh, cider).

Have a think about what it feels like to cut a big hole in your car!

I was just wondering about the cut depth of the jigsaw!

I guess any leaking hoses will be in a square foot area...

Now split a bonnet vent from a mitsi evo VII and put those either side... and you can double the cooling to the rad too...

A general kind of answer....

Kitesurf - the hoses are expensive due to the high temp application - and boy did I search for less expensive options. I paid £90 for the pieces I used. My thoughts were that I could have found some rubbish at a local dismantler, but how reliable would they have been?

Apache - yes, but a 1 1/2'' body lift last Saturday made sure that there was clearance above the engine (also, much checking as we went).

Andylala - the Trooper vent is much wider than the Warrior cooler (which I positioned towards the inlet side of the engine) - hence lots of fresh air should blast down over the exhaust side.

Agree. The flow through the front of the car will be pretty high, and that will attempt to negate the flow through the bonnet scoop. This is one reason why WRCs generally fit the intercoolers to the front of the bay. Lancer Evo road car is like this, the big hole in the bonnet is to remove hot air, and the Impreza *rally car* has a front mounted intercooler, the scoop only actually being functional for intercooler airflow on the road car. Front mounting probably isn't very practical on a surf though, though I'd guess it's marginally more practical on the 3.0 because of the lower turbo location?
