    Hello,

I didn't want to reinvent the wheel, and car companies have a bigger research budget than me.

So...I picked on a similar truck, engine combination etc, nicked their design, and applied it to the Surf (the Trooper has a stuck on vent, many other 2.5/3.0 ltr trucks have their scoop shaped into the bonnet).

I'm not an aerodynamicist (wow), so I'm not sure about the flow of air through the engine bay. I was hoping that the big car companies know about these things... Who knows?

top mount intercooler = interwarmer lol. but any excuse for a bonnet scoop is good.

I had been mulling this over just to provide enough airflow over the rad for coolign without considering the intervooler thing, hence why I mentioned it. Don't the Subaru's have a rubber skirt (ooooo errrr) to mate (double ooooo errr) the bonnet to the intercooler in the inside...?

So the other option is to manage the airflow in the engine bay, like the touring cars used to do (no idea what they do now)... with airflow guides...

nice job mate!!! must get around to doing mine but as i wanted a bigger cooler my hoses are going to be a real pain. I could also do with moving my fuel cat now! doh!

and yes subarus do use a moulding so it fits tight..

I guess its easy to come across as smart-a$$es, but forums are the place for discussions like this... Much respect to you for doing it, when most of us would just sit around talking about doing it! I'm sure though, that you'd accept that discussion is probably a route to improving your design further?

Does the warrior have a duct around the intercooler (like the subaru one)? We have a Warrior in work, but I'm off right now so cant check. If it does, this is how Mitsy ensure that the hot air flowing back through the engine bay doesn't try to exit through the bonnet scoop, thus heating the air passing through the intercooler. It may be worth getting hold of this part (or building something - looks like you're quite capable given the nice job you've done already) and ensuring that when the bonnet is down, there is a good seal between the scoop and the intercooler shroud. This will mean that as much cool air as possible is fed to where you need it. It would also be worth fitting bonnet vents (the other way round to a scoop) to release as much hot air from under the bonnet as possible (see the scooby hood again) so there wont be as much opposition to flow through the intercooler.

Keep it up, and keep us posted of any changes / performance improvements!

The Trooper vents have the rubber tube thing hanging off the bottom to seal it on to the intercooler. Well, mine did. And it stank. I threw it in the bin.

My KZN185 has a skirt dangling off the bonnet scoop that appears to seal around the top of the intercooler.

And, well done, that man (and girlfriend!) - tidy job!

Hasn't anyone thought of using a Surf intercooler bonnet and scoop? There must be some available somewhere?

Top job mate. I couldn't do it to mine. I'd be scared of buggering it up.

the problem is 2nd gens never came with intercoolers as an option. 3rd gens did.

I think he means using a 3rd Gen Intercooler on a 3.0Litre 2nd Gen - don't they have roughly the same lump ?

That's exactly what I meant. Surely you can fit the 3rd gen intercooler to a 2nd gen?

Yeah, I think Tim was more referring to not being able to get a 3rd gen bonnet on to a 2nd gen. Well, you could, but it might look a bit funny...

                            Hello,

The 3rd gen - outlet for the turbo is vertical as is the inlet manifold - see attached.

Apache - I didn't think the discussion was going all smart ar*e. As you say, let's improve the design.

My improvements were being able to fill up with oil, unlike some of the versions shown on the Oz Surf site.

So, who's man enough to let me do this to their truck.........
