Seems to me that this thread is nothing more than a list of changes to be made, reading though all of it, there's nothing mentioned that can't be done. Allowing for some thought, patience and elbow grease that is.
I also don't have an issue with the clock in the second gen
As for changes to mine, some of the things in the thread and a V8 conversion, but with a Hemi, blower and nitrous.
Nothing.......yet.
It's too sensitive. The brakes work fine generally, but if I need to brake sharply for whatever reason, the ABS kicks in and the truck takes too long to come to a stop, and makes no difference what size/tread tyres the truck has fitted.
Yes I know how ABS works and why vehicles have it, but sometimes, on a 2001 3rd gen it's bluddie dangerous! (Have a read on Yotatech, there's a number of owners that share my views.)
The brakes on my old 2nd gen were much better.
As its and old thread that's been revived... I totally agree!!
I had a really scary moment a bit back, I didn't see the little fiat 500 in front stop, (I was looking along the road, right over it's roof!) and saw it too late, and braked hard... yes it was utterly my fault for not noticing sooner, but it should have still easily, easily stopped... (we are talking sub 30 mph) instead I just carried on with juddering ABS. It was a warm, dry day, and the surface was smooth and perfect. Luckily I steered around it without hitting anything else, but I got sworn at lots (deserved lol) and had a bit of a brown pants moment.
I wondered if it was to do with possible weight bias changing on the front / rear axle due to the lift.. but I don't think it is...
Toyota ABS has always been pants for me.. the MKIII supra stuff was terrible. Always kicking in way to early when you can "feel" that you have loads more grip! The BMW stuff is good, you can feel the wheel lock momentarily before it kicks in.. i.e. it only gets in the way if you are doing it wrong anyway...
As for things I'd change....
I'd put bigger tyres and nicer wheels on it, fit a nice V8, have the body mouldings body coloured, with a scooped bonnet, and lift it... Like I have!
I'd also lose the cheapy feeling grey plastic interior.
Reading some of the posts on Yotatech, some owners just pull the fuse when offroading as the ABS is quite dangerous when the brakes don't stop the truck when you want them to.
My truck has that VSC bollux as well, which means no wheelspins.
