Does that mean I have to go find one?

The only reccomendation is keep Brian off electrical jobs on it.

Don't worry about that, I even disconnected the battery before he came to take the bumper off!

Is it possible to get the rev counter working properly?

Do you have a wiring diagram that shows how you spliced everything together?

Also, I can't find the connector thing to check for fault codes, where did you hide it?

3 of the idiot lights glow continually (Brake, ATF Temperature and battery warning) any idea what could be causing that?

Forgot to ask about the gauges - where did they come from?

It won't get it perfectly acurate, but turn the potentiometer on the PCB behind the tach faceplate, fully clockwise.

I'll PM it when I've amended it.

Should be there, I didn't hide it on No. IV. It'll be near the passenger side distributor cover?

Alternator on the way out possibly, No. V's went bad IIRC. All the surf's dash wiring/fuses are original, just a different alternator now.

Ach, FFS! I was looking for a black box near the fuse box or the ECU! The grey thing in my video, is that the test socket?

Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it.

Yup, the small grey diagnostics box on the right side of the photo, the small grey box that says DIAGNOSIS on it.

You can junk all that EGR/emmisions crap if you want to, tidies up the engine a tad. Just unplug the electrical connectors, seal the ends and tuck them away out of sight. Then you can remove all the small diameter rubber and chrome vac pipes that run around the front of the inlet plenum. Make sure you plug any holes/ports that are left though.
Then make up a blanking plate for where the EGR was bolted to the side of the inlet plenum, but leave the spout for the valve cover breather tube.
See the before and after photos of No' VII's engine to see what I deleted.

I hadn't even noticed the box, until you mentioned it, nevermind the words!

I was going to ask you about that. I'll get it running properly first, then start taking bits off.

The dashboard is out at the moment, so I'll do the rev counter fiddling that you mentioned before.

Off to the breakers tomorrow, got more wee bits 'n' bobs to pick up.

I think I have her running properly, although I'm not convinced the ICV is working properly, I may swap it out (again), but I'll leave it for now.

It's time to tidy things up a bit...

Can I snip the wires from the 3 multi-plugs in the picture below?

I appear to have more Emissions stuff than most folk do, can all this go?

You can snip off the white plug, those green wires were for the gear position indicator lights on the LS400 dash.

With the other two, I can't remember what they do now, but any black wires with red stripes need to have 12v with ignition on.

Black wires with yellow stripes usually need constant 12v, but the black/yellow wire I can see there, is most likely a ignition 12v.

Brown, or any white wires with black stripes are earths.

                              Everything else can be chopped.

Link the two coolant pipes together and just unplug and junk the rest. Don't leave any open vac pipes though and seal the open plugs.
