Is it possible to get the rev counter working properly?
It won't get it perfectly acurate, but turn the potentiometer on the PCB behind the tach faceplate, fully clockwise.(see photo attached)
Do you have a wiring diagram that shows how you spliced everything together?
I'll PM it when I've amended it.
Also, I can't find the connector thing to check for fault codes, where did you hide it? Should be there, I didn't hide it on No. IV. It'll be near the passenger side distributor cover?
3 of the idiot lights glow continually (Brake, ATF Temperature and battery warning) any idea what could be causing that? Alternator on the way out possibly, No. V's went bad IIRC. All the surf's dash wiring/fuses are original, just a different alternator now.
Forgot to ask about the gauges - where did they come from?
Ach, FFS! I was looking for a black box near the fuse box or the ECU! The grey thing in my video, is that the test socket?
Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it.
Yup, the small grey diagnostics box on the right side of the photo, the small grey box that says DIAGNOSIS on it.
You can junk all that EGR/emmisions crap if you want to, tidies up the engine a tad. Just unplug the electrical connectors, seal the ends and tuck them away out of sight. Then you can remove all the small diameter rubber and chrome vac pipes that run around the front of the inlet plenum. Make sure you plug any holes/ports that are left though.
Then make up a blanking plate for where the EGR was bolted to the side of the inlet plenum, but leave the spout for the valve cover breather tube.
See the before and after photos of No' VII's engine to see what I deleted.

I was going to ask you about that. I'll get it running properly first, then start taking bits off.
The dashboard is out at the moment, so I'll do the rev counter fiddling that you mentioned before.
Off to the breakers tomorrow, got more wee bits 'n' bobs to pick up.
