If you converted from auto to manual, did you swap the ECUs over as well?
If it's a manual, is the clutch slipping?
If an auto, is the trans fluid level/condition OK?
    Is the fuel filter new/clean?
    Cylinder compressions OK?
sorry...knew i would have missed something...

was manual...and still is..with the original ECU...nothing has changed other than the recon engine...clutch is fine...engine is not racing as if clutch was slipping....the fuel filter is fairly new and just to make sure i bypassed it for a short run..which made no improvment so put it back in....

thought about hooking up a temp fuel tank (gaffer taped to the bonet or similar! ) to eliminate fuel lines/tank pickup etc...but cant see how the fuel lines would sudenly block..and also had lot of diesel spilling out when messing with the filter.so pretty happy they are fine...altho might still do the tank idea just to cross it off the list...

compression feels ok...not pressure tested it tho.,.stiull trying to find a mate with a tester!

i big V8 conversion is getting v tempting...

Hows this for a silly suggestion.. have you got the fuel supply and return pipes on the pump the right way round?

Also, you've probably checked all the vac pipes, but there's a short 'J' shaped piece thats below the TPS and has a small filter/one way valve fitted to it, that sometimes gets knocked off or falls off due to oil contamiation making it swell and loose.
This the the turbo pressure sensor pipe, if it's not connected, the truck will not rev freely and be absolutely gutless.

nope...thats all good...was getting engine management light 12 and 13 on sometimes too...hence doubting the pump...

is what happened when i unplugged the TPS correct?...reading on other posts people talk about it going to the rev limiter!...mine just idoled up a bit...could this be a dodgy TPS still?...or badly adjusted??...as i said..i bought it as an unfinished project...and the guy i got it off was a bit of a tinkerer...so not ruling out the possibility that its been messed with.

          Cheers guys

May sound a silly question, but has it got fresh diesel in the tank?

thanks for the sugestion tho....at this point any ideas are welcome!

                  any more ideas people?...

still gutless...just hasnt got enough balls to get out of 3rd gear!

i noticed what seemed like excessive smoke today...im thinking the timing has been messed with a few times now...im guessing its out a bit..anything else that could cause that?...

whats the timing settings for the 2.4TD?...at the moment its being set by ear...maybe i should be being a bit more technical about it! :-)

im wondering if my problem lies within the inlet manifold?...as its the only bit ive not swapped out?...any pointers to make sure everything is doing what it should?

thanks in advance for any help you can give

                  Cheers

Have you done a compression test on all the cylinders yet?

no....still trying to find someone with a compression tester...it feels good tho when i did the belt..and its a recon engine...it had never been started when i bought it! so im really hoping the compression is good...no head damaged signs eitiher (temp runs at half gauge....oil and water staying in their respective places!) and sounds sweet as a nut...its fine untill you try and pull away then its like your towing a lorry!

                      Cheers guys...

                        Two more suggestions......

Transmission fluid, is it red and at the correct level. (level checked with engine running)
maybe the engine ECU is faulty?

can eleiminate gearbox oil...i swapped the complete box out last weekend :-)

                          faulty ECU....NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

is there anyway i can bypass all the fancy sensors and run it like a propper diesel?...my way of thinkin..the pump is mechanical..the turbo is sorta machanical...the only compliated bit is the inlet manifold...surely it can be simplifed for testing purposes?

                          Cheers
