Mine will only be about 2 1/2" high, much less than some Scooby WRXs I've seen, some of them are nearly 4" high off the bonnet!

      Check this out......http://go.jeep-xj.info/HowtoBonnet.htm

I'm thinking about getting a second hand bonnet and doing this with a scoop cut into it aswell. The intercooler will be sealed to the bonnet when shut, and also hot air will be able to escape too. The Surf bonnet already has a bulge in it, it's just a matter of raising it at the back and welding fillets down the sides.

sorry for the dumb question, what kind of perfomance increase is an intercooler likely to give?

Not that much, but hopefully more economy.

i reckon its more than you think, the 3rd gens have 20-30hp over the non intercooled models dont they?
im also doing it for economy but a power increase should come with it.
after that i may change the exhaust for a larger diameter one but other than that its probably not worth messing around any further.

any suggestions on scoops Bushwhacker, i've decided on the FD3 RX7 intercooler for sure, it just looks to simple a fit to pass up, but i'm really undecided about scoops.

i've seen no scoops on ebay that tickle my fancy. the one featured on the oz site is that a nissan patrol jobby?
i swear, it was like that when i got here...

i really like the tall scooby ones but need to have a measure up - not sure if my cooler will mount thin or fat ways yet.
i might be after a gti-r scoop to match... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GTI-R-BONNET-V...QQcmdZViewItem

Yeah, it seems to be the best shape for the mazda cooler.

cool idea, i was thinking of a different colour, black being pref for ease of fitting.
that scoop is more like it!

Guys guys, now youv'e done it, I have about 4 intercoolers sitting here looking at what to fit and where...

Any ideas, I don't have the super duper 2" lift, but I'd like to fit an intercooler and a scoop, mainly as diesel is £1 per litre, and I like the idea of prolonging my engine.

So what I would like to ask you guru's out there, what intercooler and what scoop would fit my beastie, then I can get the right gear, and get going on this mod, before the wifey askes what are all these small rad things doing under the dining table ?

                              Help peeps

I'll be fitting mine like this, with no body lift. I've worked out that the cooler will be protruding through the bonnet about an inch, so as long as the scoop is tall enough for that, (most of them are) then Robert's your mother's brother!
