The mud and sand will only stick to the outside of the waxoil so it will still protect it from rust. I stand to be corrected!
    It's only a hobby!

You need to thoroughly (spelling?) Steam clean your chassis first. Clean all the places WAXOYL will be applied, Let it dry properly before coating.

You'll struggle to get it out of the chassis rails, Park up hill and try to flush as much out as possible with a pressure washer. The rest will have to stay there.

hehe, I've seen pickup chassis that look like that already!

Looked at a trooper (old model) before buying the surf and it was full of expanding foam...

WAIT! WAIT! Dou you guys mean to say that the box section chassis rails/crossmembers are OPEN?

Surely, engineers from the largest car manufacturer in Japan know what the consequences of that would be, and therefore they wouldn't include such a flaw in the design of a car whose duties will at least probably involve submersion in water?

What's the point of Waxoyl, Dinitrol, or even paint for that matter, if the chassis is going to rot from inside out anyway?!

Expanding foam sounds good, so long as it's closed-cell, and bonded to the insides of the rails/members, otherwise... can anyone think of a better harbourer of water? Open-cell foam has another, more common name - "sponge"...

Yep, have a look under, plenty of holes in the sides of the rails, AFAIK the front of the rails are open too, don't know about the rear but would assume they're open as well.

Imagine if they were sealed and there was a small flaw somewhere such as a small hole in a welded section. If this was on the top section and then the vehicle was driven through water deep enough to fill the rail then the water would not drain. There is also lots of other things attached to the rails with bolts and other things so it's better to have them open.At least this way they dry out some of the time. That's how I see it anyway.

Hmmm... Fair enough, but wouldn't a few drain holes along the length of the bottom solve that?

Either way, it's immaterial - we've got what we've got, and I guess if it was that big a deal, we'd have a lot more chassis rot than we do...

I wouldn't worry, my pickup chassis is 23 years old, with this much mud in it and is still completely solid through out......
