I have run my Surf (absolutely standard) through quite a few very hot summers.
My air con works well and I have been towing a 2 ton digger around.
    I haven't had a problem. Great vehicle.

(Does the cardboard I'm touching count as wood?)

it gets up to 42 c in Romania some times and i always run mine with all windows down when its hot. im glad you seem to be sorted
How would a bonnet scoop "increase the forced air flow into the rad at the front"?.........

Was thinking the same...and two hours later still can't work it out.......as I said just pop the bonnet..the catch will stop it opening fully at speed.
        .... Which was nice.

          (you hope!)

Perhaps vents rather than scoops on the bonnet could improve airflow over the rad by giving the air somewhere to go once it's gone through the rad?

Can't disagree rusty....although I was doing 65mph with no trouble. As I said taking the rubber seals/strips off works a treat. Then pop them back on when the weather gets cooler.
            .... Which was nice.

took off the rubber seal around the hood. Checked the water pump, its fine. I let the engine run for abt 15min without the rad cap to remove any airlocks. But a question about the electric fan, the ac rad/cooler sits between the main rad and the electric fan. So, is this fan for the ac rad? My e fan doesn't work at all, I mean I have never seen it fireup.

If your talking about the little fan that sits in front of the main rad then it's the a/c fan...switch on your a/c and watch it whizz round. Better still junk it along with the a/c.

I fully understand it on a rear engined vehicle.

Glad to see that you're back safe, kev. I vented mine with a
Trooper scoop turned backwards. Hopefully, to help release trapped hot air and marginally increase airflow through the radiator.........Cheers....Mic k.

                            .

Got mine for twenty quid and sprayed it to match the bumpers and arches as a contrast. Didn't do it with a jigsaw, because there's some structural stuff under the bonnet skin (For those who haven't removed their sound insulation). I just used a hand held nibbler, about a tenner from MM. I'll take some detailed pics tomorrow, if you like, to show you where the holes were drilled.......

just realised that you might have missed the bonnet scoop idea totally... its a plastic type trim that fits under the lip of the front of the bonnet shaped in reverse like a spoiler, so that it deflects the air into the rad instead of over the bonnet.
Explain,...... And post a photographic example....
