Fuel Leak using veggie

Veggi filler

Decided to start again, not happy with the outcome so I am going to cut the top bit (where the cap screws) off then saw down at an angle, weld a filler from the scrap yard then reweld the filler bit on.

May have to get some more oxygen, used a lot yesterday. Stainless brazes with brass braze OK if you do it quick, if it blackens, forget it.
Going to do it in mild steel.
Will post pics when done.

I am going to see the service manager of the local vauxhall dealership who I have known for about 20years and see if any of their bolts will do the biz, if not then the scrap yard till I find one that will.

Sounds like you have better equipment than me mate, i've nowt to braze with, it'll have to be the old tack it with the arc welder ploy or glue it on,
have you any small engineering firms round your way? we have (or had , not sure if there still there) one in portsmouth, J W Tout, whatever you needed he could supply/make for you, i'd imageine high tensile bolts of verying lenghts/sizes should'nt be much of a prob, if you like i'll see if touts are still in business and if so the possibility of em doing one (or more) for you, will need a bolt for comparison tho, dia/thread pitch etc, but check out locally first,

When it comes to engineering I will try anything.
I have a mig that I have never used, (used one once but used more gas than wire) a normal arc that I use a lot (not brill but the welds hold) and a small Oxy/Acet that I use with Butane and oxy cuz its cheaper.
An air compressor, 5 sets of 20 tube Solar panel kits for heating hot water ( I plan on selling three kits) lots of small power tools, a concrete mixer, an engine lift (bought for this project, how would I remove a head on my own) an old but working pedestal drill, oh and a microlight aircraft but I have a problem landing on the home airstrip so dont have a pilots license as yet.

I am afraid that from what I have seen of your setup mine is the pits. No pun intended cuz I think you have a pit in your garage. Just a small half a normal garage full of junk.

Sounds about the same as mine then, an old SIP arc welder, a 3 phase piller drill that i stuck an 110v motor on, an old clunker of a compressor (it gets there in the end) an assortment of ancieant power tools, had the same prob with the mig, more gas than wire, i hope Rodleach has results with it,

Head Bolt

Just got back.
Spent the morning in the scrap yard taking head bolts out to no avail so I went to the Fiat/Alfa gargage that used to be a customer of mine and in return for fixing two of his printers he gave me a head bolt from a Ducatti engine which is about one and a half inches too long so a result there.

At the scrappy I picked up a piece of clean exhaust the size of the filler and some flexible plastic petrol filler pipe working on the theory if petrol dont melt it then I am sure Veggi wont. I spent a total of £2 today, so I am well pleased.

Going to order a set of good new head bolts now, then start again.

I fancy going on Scrapheap Challenge I reckon that would be the Bees Knees.

My clean bit of exhaust

The clean bit of mild steel exhaust I picked up today turned out to be stainless.
Anyway it must have been good quality cuz it brazed up OK.
I have completed the dual filler. Had enough Oxy.
Will take some pics tomorrow..

Have cut the Ducatti bolt down, just waiting for a set of bolts from Milners to arrive.

Double Filler

Hopefully here are the pictures of my double filler.
I have tried to show inside the filler.
The braze is not so good but looks OK with a coat of paint.

Nice job John, it looks a fiddley sod to do, now i know what i'm in for, now you need some silicon hose now to connect up to the second tank

I need to reduce the input to the tank first from about 3ins dia to something smaller.
This tank has an intank pump which is useful.

The hardest part of the filler is cutting both pieces at the correct angle and holding them together while you tack them.
It is much easier if you remove the screw top part first then re-fit after.

Well it's one of my "to do" jobs although with the price of veg wot it is theres no real rush, more likely i'll just connect the two tanks up as sort of long range (prob never be able to afford to fill em both up tho) the neck on my tank's about 3", why they made em so big god knows, i'll do the filler like yours, it's connecting the tank supplys thats the trouble, either i link em via the sump drain plugs, use a changeover valve, or a pump to get it from the rear tank into the original, dunno about that bit yet

Fired up

Fired up the beast today, veggie leak cured but the engine is still blowing into the water, air bubbles coming out of he filler all the water is dis-appearing.

Going to heat up the engine then quickly take off the rocker cover and re-tighten the head bolts. If that fails then I am stuffed and ####ed off.

Heat it up (not with a match) then screw the head bolts as tight as I dare.

If you've only just reassembled and refilled the coolant system, that seems normal enough. It's circulating and expelling any trapped air. When you say the water is disappearing, do you mean into the system, and not blowing out of the filler neck?
