  • Nasty accident in cornwall yesterday

Saw the news last night after hearing about the nasty accident at victoria interchange due to severe weather conditions,, i said to hubby that looks like a surf on its side with the rear mounted tyre, the vehicle was too long for panjaro(NEVER SPELL THAT WORD!!!)

and definately looked like a surf,
checking out bbc cornwall web page, it states it was a toyota hi luv pick up, but i am sure its a surf, i may be wrong as 8 people were in there

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/cornwall/7337475.stm

hope they are all ok, must have been some accident for 4x4 to be on its side, anyone in cornwall throw more light on accident, it stopped traffic for a very long time while air ambulance made two landing trips on the A30

Looks very like a 2nd gen surf from underneath.

Bad driving and high speeds can flip a surf pretty easy.

heres hoping they are all ok.

That does look like the underside of a Surf, but it could also be a pickup - do the double-cabs have similar side-steps?

Big question is however - 8 people in one?? I know there have been a couple of Surfs with extra seats fitted in the boot so it could happen.

Not like mine. Wishbones look a different shape, and the fuel tank protection is different to mine as well.

Does look like 2nd gen underside, but the tyres are really narrow -- and the front bash guard doesn't look like the import/air-con one.

the brackets on the A bar look like the ones from the Toyota emblazoned bars.

            the plastic crossbar thingies.

bashplate and wishbones do look a bit different though. sidesteps look right.

The report did say pickup & I have seen a number of pickups with side steps

yeh, but 8 people, not unless the unlucky beggars were in the back bed!

Turning over is one thing that worries me.... especially once lifts are involved, Anyone remember that "Elk test" video I posted with the latest Hilux??

Maybe I am just paranoid as I have only ever really had low cars before!
                  More Lift.
                  More Tyres.
                  More Engine.

                    Looks like a pre-facelift Surf.

Thats why the ARBs need to stay on if the truck is used mainly for road/commuting use.

But how do you get 8 people in a pickup, and still be even remotely safe? I guess they weren't, and I hope that no-one suffers as a result of the drivers negligence.

Mate, I've turned over a lowered (on full Spax suspension) Celica. Rolling isn't the preserve of the tall vehicle.

Must have driving beyond your capabilites then, not the cars.
