    OOooooOOOOohhh...

    Calm down there Rod.

I said big tyres are more dangerous (if you believe that a Surf is dangerous per se) than removed ARBs. They are. Fact. You were just the only one I could think of with the biggest tyres.

Yes, my tyres are a bad choice for the road. I tell people, rather than just saying 'yeah, get great big tyres, the handlings just as good as normal road tyres'. It isn't.

I wont tell someone not to do something on the heresay of some guys on another site. (The tyre on the roof)

I dont want to fall out with anyone on the site simply through being honest. The random 'facts' do p1ss me off, particularly when a little thought shows them to NOT be facts, or easily debunked, so if I am in a position to do so, I will continue to say so if someone is being given bad advice.

Like I say, I'm not here to fall out with anyone, and NO, nothing was aimed at anyone in particular (but you were the one who came out with the 'tyre on the roof might make you tip over guff) and certainly wasn't an attck on yourself. You're being a bit paranoid there.

I'll repeat what I said earlier. Sorry if I offended anyone, but if I did, well, though sh1t.

My Mk2 escort had to be driven sensibly when condition were wet or slippy due to it's rear wheel drive.

My Subaru WRX had to handled with caution in corners, you had to level the boost out and not poke the go pedal until it was going straight, the grunt even on dry roads could make it 'interesting'

My Surf has to driven like a big heavy truck and I give other drivers in front a wee bit more stopping distance and treat corners carefully ( wet mini roundabouts are a joke, even on brand new AT's)

          My point.

If you can drive and understand the limits of your vehicle then you are doing the best you can to stay out of trouble.
If you suddenly find out your vehicles limits when you are in danger then it might already be too late.

Every car I have owned has been tried and tested in a safe way to see how it performs and handles.

And remember that no matter how cautious you may be there are always idiots out there.

Take care no matter what you drive, stay safe and stay alive.

hmmmmmm what size tyres should i get then 33's 35's etc etc

whilst reading this i think tis good we can all talk n take the p1ss but one thing we all got to think of here its all a learning curve n besides we all quick to help each other when help is needed.
myself like gra got a 2.4 n get the pee taken out of us by 3L drivers or us all taking the mick outta 3rd gen drivers, but like gra im not a fast driver n not because i got a 2.4 its how i myself want to drive we all change our driving when we get in different trucks or cars n have different driving styles.
when i drive off-road im cautious n everyone wants to fall asleep while waiting for me to get around but thats how i drive n i dont seem to get all the damage like others do but then im still learning n scared most of the time while off road.
same on road i drive to my abilities n happy at that ok skull getting lifted n im sure my driving style will change again.
ok taking the mick outta what we can or cant afford or what style tyres etc etc but its all up to the person that drives that veihcle.
rod i dont think apache meant it in a form of malice i think its was just friendly banter.
think no matter what car or truck lifted or not if its going to go into a skid or turn over it will anyway.
trying driving a big american camper size of a artic lorry or a coach they can turn over just like that n at anytime right or wrong gra?

just my view but......if an arb was not needed why did mr toyota with shedloads of experiance, design, research ect fit them? he could have saved the cost and either sold the car cheaper or made more profit.
I believe that when any vehicle is developed apart from the 'norm' of uses others are looked into as well, otherwise why pave, tilt, speed, skid, incline tests etc carried out?, most of these are never experianced by the average motor in its life.
What I do know is that I would rather be in a bog standard motor with all the bits and bobs on, than one without 'normal ride hight' spacers, non standard springs, extended this, lifted that, removed whatever. If that object suddenly and unexpectedly appeared in front of me, be it a child, adult, car, truck, combine harvester or whatever and I had to swerve hard.
now to realy be contrvertial having been in a head on (not my fault)
I have to thank Mr Volvo for having (at the time) one of the safest motors one could wish for, sure my motor was totally trashed, but the crumple zones certainly saved the life of me, my wife and my 3 kids, we all walked away and only 1 door would not open, the front wheels ended up under the front seats and the only thing that was trapped was my wifes shoe as the floor pan distorted and gripped her heel!!!
I just wonder what the outcome might have been if we had been in either a modified or different car, perhaps if folks want an all terain motor can I reccomend either a Haflinger or a Unimog (the tongue was verry firmly in cheek)
Did I mention I have a BLUE one
                      Tony

This is the last time I'll say it. The Anti Roll Bar isn't there to stop the car rolling over, it is there to reduce body roll, primarily for the comfort of the inhabitants. It limits articulation, so to improve that for offroaders, it can be removed on the understanding that there might be an apparent change in the feel of the vehicles driving dynamics.

Your vehicle will not immediately become a danger to everyone without it, nor will bigger tyres etc etc, AS LONG AS YOU APPRECIATE THE CHANGES.

Fatfires, vehicles come out of the factory with them because Joe Public wants less body roll and generally isn't that concerned about offroad traction.

                          Rod.

But, you ARE one of a bunch of girls in a virtual playground. Sorry Bibs, I just saw a lot of debatable stuff being passed of as 'advice' or 'fact' in the last few weeks, and wanted to point out that people do take the 'advice' as fact and base decisions on it, when often it is no more than opinion, sometimes misguided.

In my typically forthright northern manner, I may have offended a few people.

                              yep,

do look at it like this.

i was driving this double deck coach to austria.when we arrived the people got off and had to driven up to the hotel in minibuses.the reason was that the road fell away to the edge of the cliff you were desperately trying not to drive off.it was fine driving an unladen coach to the hotel with the luggage(which was downstairs) but unsafe with the 50 odd people sat upstairs.the point is that they changed the characteristics of the vehicle
and considerably so,and you had to amend your driving style, much like having different suspension, tyres etc

Exactly, this is how I know.

You could lift the thing 20 inches - you just have to drive slower and in straight lines...........I wouldn't drive mine like I drive the car so you adapt and respect what you are in - common sense me thinks.
