What does it say about solid white lines the whole length of a village - where there is a 30 mph speed limit, no footpaths, and no street lights and I would conservatively estimate that over 75% of biker ignore the speed limit by a considerable margin, in some cases by over 100%....

Some bikers I know are great, and I'm sure all of the bikers on this forum are too, and adhere to speed limits, but the swarms of bikers that decend upon my village do so in large numbers with absolutely no regard for the safety of the residents...

that would mean no over taking...and no exceeding 30mph....which agreed....all (including car drivers) should do...

sometime people notice bikes speeding..and not so much cars by the noise they make (if i drive down my street in the Golf...no one notices me...but do it on the gixer, traveling at the same legal speed..and i get turned heads)

speeding is bad in all cases...especially in built up areas...

As for the biker - I hate bikers on account of them racing through my village all the time IT'S A 30 LIMIT, ALL DAY, EVERY DAY!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, and double white lines means.....(this is a question to all you bikers out there)
You must not cross BUT you can overtake as long as you don't cross the lines (staying within the speedlimit obviously)

108: Double white lines where the line nearest you is solid. This means you MUST NOT cross or straddle it unless it is safe and you need to enter adjoining premises or a side road. You may cross the line if necessary to pass a stationary vehicle, or overtake a pedal cycle, horse or road maintenance vehicle, if they are travelling at 10mph or less.

                    I thought so!

And cars do it too - in both directions, and I cannot get the police to give a plop, cos no-ones been splattered yet....it's just the thread was about bikers, but in an attempt to present an unbiased view, drivers have a distressing habit of ignoring the speed limit and signage too....

Been there and got the T shirt.

If I am filtering through traffic and some scunnered car driver moves out into my path in a feeble attempt to stop me riding past I will and have had a few mirrors.

Every biker here will have a few stories to tell on how car drivers tried to block bikes by moving towards the middle of the road I see it every day when car / white van drivers try to force bikes onto traffic islands.

Blocking bikes is nowt worse than stupid and a bust mirror is at least fair play.

i have always moved over to let a biker pass whether i'm in slow traffic or doing normal speed and i have seen cars pull over to the middle of the road to stop them passing which i can't see the point of.I am not a bike rider either

I only ever did that once.. a mate had just picked up his brand new gpz500 and a 3 series bmw pulled out on him at a mini roundabout, nearly causing him to crash a bike with 2 miles on the clock.. If you smack the mirror really hard downward, they come off nice and clean and hang by the wires. very satisfying. I would imagine clipping a mirror as you rode past would be quite painful...
                            it's in me shed, mate.

Best mirror to smack is the Pug van, slap it backwards and it goes through the drivers window

But seriously... Most car drivers including sometimes ME are brain dead in slow / stopped traffic, they dont know a bike is behind or filtering until it's passed then it's FFS WAKEY WAKEY BASA BIKER time, these drivers are safe 'cos most bikers expect dozy drivers, it's the smart arse who catches a glimpse of a biker filtering three cars back and moves out to force the rider over the white lines or into the path of a traffic island, this is by law dangerous driving and more drivers should be hung out to dry.
