  • Pre Bobbox tests...

In my neverending pursuit of scientific excellence I conducted a couple of tests tonight to establish a Pre-Bobbox benchmark.

    Test 1.

    0-60 = 42 Minutes....................... no, just joking...

    0-60 = a shade under 15 Seconds

    Test 2.

    A thrash up a 1 in 7 hill = 45 Seconds [nerver really got above 40].

    Now we have to wait....

You forgot the most important figure, the MPG.

I'll do a speed test on the M'way tomorrow

Hopefully tomorrow, but I will be fitting it myself so probably sometime next easter...

MPG is around 20 at the moment. The bulk of my driving is short runs around town.

There are other things you need to measure.

          1) 'Greatness' quotient - in other words, how 'great' do you feel now - compare with how great you feel post-bobbox.

          2) Toothfairyism. Do you believe in the tooth fairy now? Do you post bobbox?

          3) Is the Emperor wearing any clothes?

Would also be worthwhile measuring the ambient temperature
when you are testing, pre and post, to try to test in closest
match temperatures as well, as that can affect findings.

I'm just a natural cynic, and no-one seems to be able to explain *how* this gadget achieves greatness (not even the bobbox website, which just seems to suggest that it makes everything brilliant).

I look forward to the results, and someone who has the guts to take their new purchase apart and take a look inside.

Do you know how your radio works in the truck? I mean REALLY know?

We all just accept that it's a radio, and it will do exactly as it says on the tin. Why can't you accept that the Bobbox will do as claimed?
                It just does, OK?

Have you seen these guys http://www.allardturbosport.co.uk/? Alan Allard is Mr Blower and has probably forgotten more about supercharging and turbocharging that most people will ever learn. I spoke to him about my old Paj, which was very underpowered and he was much cheaper than www.vanaaken.com who are also gurus in this field. Shame I never ever got the time to make the trip up to let him breath on it. Still I might take the old Surf up to see him one day, but then mine doesn't really suffer from a lack of grunt, infact in the wet it is hard to keep the rear wheels stuck to the road.
Parts of your engine go up, stop then go back! Mm!

You just had to go and ask, didn't you. Talk about walking

Electronics are basicly very simple, if you know what your looking at and building.

He's not going to give away how it works for free.

If you get anywhere near the claimed 20% increase the price is very worth the money.

From the £20 ebay resistors to the remapped, adjustable fuel curves of the bobbox making diesel go quicker is all about how much fuel you can get in the motor while still keeping optimum combustion.

The resistors are (rap, just fooling the ECU into thinking more air is being sucked in so the pump puts more fuel in, no matter how you drive it just gets smokey. The ECU piggy back units are proper remapped fuel curves that should let the motor run like normal untill you give it a foot full of throttle.

Most motors are under tuned from the factory for longlivity, so you can make a degree of improvement without sacrificing to much reliabily.

There is only far you can adjust the bobbox till the unburnt fuel make to much smoke under load, the next step is to fit an intercooler, then you get more O2 per intake charge as cooler air is denser, meaning you then increase the fuel charge more without the black smoke.

You also run into the max amount of fuel the original injectors will reliably squirt, so the uprated injectors are needed to get the best combustion.

Don't forget once all this is in the engine you've got to get it out, meaning bigger exhaust.

The nice thing about a properly tuned engine is for normal driving you won't lose any MPG or reliablity, you want the extra capacity when you press the go pedal, not just dunping extra fuel in all the time.

It all sounds good in theory, in reality time will tell, once Linda's motor has bedded in its new bearings, we'll see how the bobbox and intercooler really work out with its uprated injectors.

even if it is a few simple resistors bob is prob 1 of few people that know how to make these items, so realy you are paying him for his kowledge.
When all said and done thats all anybody ever does with any item being repaired/modified, most people take there truck to a mech cause they dont know how to do it there self!!. in some cases i have taken my cars to garages but only when i have no time. I once took my sierra for a cluch change due to not having time and when i got the car back the first thing i did was, on mi back and checked all the fixings that had been moved during the change. It was a good job i did as there were only 2 bolts holding the gearbox on.... gulp......

so kowledge is somthing that we all have in our own jobs and share with others for a price......thats life.....

Yeah! Thats wot i was gonna say,
If it works it's worth it and i dont really care wots inside but if its another go faster gadget that does'nt really do it or makes ya use twice as much fuel then ill give it a miss, Best reccomendation is from people that's put one on,
Haveing said that Diesel Bob aint some fly by night ebay blagger,

As Imentioned in my earlier post, that was the problem with my chipped A4, great performance but a very poor fuel map giving the engine max fuel at any one time.

As the man said the proof of the pudding and all that...

@ Apache: You are quite right to be a bit dubious of the Bobbox for obvious reasons, but as Tony alludes to, if you know your electronics it is a pretty simple matter to alter the mapping of any engine with an electronic management unit.

Anyway, it came this morning so we'll see...
