    Engine transplant?
    Bit drastic?

Might be worth asking on one of the oz forums for a decent mech in your area, seems like you have well meaning chancers on your rig.
And yeah it may well be better do it all yourself.

You will always get help and advice here.

Im not even worried about it being slow up hills now... Just wish it would turn over in under a minute... ###### thing.
I dont know if it's a compression problem, glow plugs or injectors...
Tried to find an 8mm non return valve today to put in the fuel line just before the filter in case it's not turning over due to an air leak in the system but no one has anything in this town, ill have to look online.
Put one of those diesel valve and seal products in with the oil yesterday to try and help with the smoke on start up and maybe fix the extra blow by but nothing's changed as yet

glow plug are that cheap you might as well change them anyway...and a few tanks of bio-diesel will clean the injectors up...both inexpensive. if you try bio change the fuel filter after you've done it, all the gloop ends up in it.

I use store bought injector cleaner... My housemate makes bio diesel and runs his Navara on fish n chips fumes.
Yeah I'll test the glow plugs this weekend and change then If need be.
So embarrassing trying to start my truck in public :/

Haha I could imagine, I had an old Holden where the roof lining had become unglued and would hang down touching everyone's head like a circus tent.

Come to think of it, my surf used to be a swimming pool before I fixed the sun roof too

                  lack of power

all you need to do is as soon as you hit a hill
drop it out of over drive soon as it starts to slow again put it back in overdrive
worked for me when i had one of them old things

Code 8 - faulty MAF sensor
Checked MAF and a dodgy job was done on the wires - completely covered in silicone.
I've unplugged the MAF and now my truck fires up first go, every time, no matter how cold.
Question is, will this do any damage internally? The MAF regulates the air fuel mixture and in autos, the gearbox as well.

Found the speed sensor and the wires have been rubbing together, plus the grommets inside the plug have disintegrated and aren't keeping the connectors on.

If anybody has either of these parts spare I would sure like to buy them from you!
I need the plugs and wires...

                            ***time for an update***

                            trouble starting = leaking injector

Put reco ones in and that fixed it, however now it has absolutely NO GUTS before the turbo kicks in and wont even make it up my steep driveway.
I have to put it in low4 to get up there.
Pulling out into oncoming traffic is extremely dangerous and ive been beeped at several times!

Spoke to diesel guys and Toyota and they both said the old injector pump wasn't strong enough to run the reco injectors.

So ive just put in a BRAND NEW injector pump, timing kit and water pump.

                            ....

...... Same problem... hasn't changed a thing, besides the belt having better tension now.

ive got BRAND NEW injectors coming up tomorrow to be put in on Friday (considering logic says if it was fine before the injectors were changed then they must be the culprit)

but Toyota (who have been great with all this btw) may still think its the ECU or one of the sensors to the ECU.

The only fault code I get is AIR INTAKE SENSOR
And the O/D light flashes once every 2 seconds

is there a separate ECU for the gearbox somewhere???

                              Evening chris...

Air intake sensor....is that the little dog dah in the air cleaner?
Might want to check its a good fit with no leaks round it before you descend further into the seven circles of hell.

Is your a 2.4? Been a while and I forget?

                                Hey Andy
yeah thats the one... not sure if the sensor itself is fried or its a wiring issue.
The wires have been cut and resoldered but still didnt fix it.
Wish I knew how to test things with a multimeter.
                                Its a good fit though...
