When was the radiator cap last changed?
It should, when the engine cools down allow for the slow admission of coolant from the expansion tank back into the block.
Check for a good seal on the radiator cap.
Check the hose to and the cap on the expansion bottle isn't blocked.
Make sure that you have ALL the air out of the coolant system.
If you can park the truck facing up hill and leave the cap off overnight can sometimes help, obviously let the engine cool down before removing the cap as a fountain of scalding hot coolant isn't the best hand and face wash ;(
Get a combustion gas check done on your coolant.

In addition, how fast are you expecting to go?
Were you laden down with heavy kit?

The is a hill out of Wantage, which will mean nothing to you but, it rises a few hundred feet in a very short distance.
In the truck about a 2/3 the way up the truck drops down a gear, when it does this it also drops out of the "power band " and you can feel it bog down, it is still pulling though but slower.

The same hill in my manual Vito has to be tackled in third revving the nuts off it, if I try it in top forget it by the time I have changed down to third I really need to be in second.
And again the same hill in the pug it will quite literally fly up the hill in top, in fact she has to slow down not to break the speed limit.
I wonder if it is the change down on your truck that may need attention?

Hey shock yeah ill try a new rad cap.
Getting it pressure tested on Monday.
However... Coolant seems to be holding just fine now!?!?
I played with all the hoses you mentioned and put the rad cap back on after burping it over night and it's holding now, weird.

My manual 2.4 had a lot more balls than my now auto
            4yrs and 2 surfs later...

If you have checked and tightened your hoses then you may have cured the leak.
You may also have lost coolant as vapour escaping from the expansion tank lid.
But more than likely is has been a hose clamp that you have tightened.
I did have a minute leak from my turbo coolant return hardly visable until I added some uv dye to test the system.

Well my mechanic checked the throttle body and said it's fine, no build up. Also checked the drive gear and said it's tight.
He has agreed it's a bit slow, and has recommended I take it to a diesel fuel specialist because in his opinion it leads to a fuel leak possibly from the internal fuel pump.
He has come to this because it can also take a bit to start, but when it's left on accessories for about 7 seconds it turns over right away.

                Any thoughts?

Yeah everything is fine ill get a compression test done once I fix the 4wd and see what's going on in the engine.
They did a compression test on the cooling system and although it dropped a bit, they found no external leaks.

                      Update:
4wd fixed (tf motor) , speed sensor issues now.
The cheeky buggers at the 4wd shop told me they did a compression test but on the read out I got from them it says "low compression as per instrument panel"

So im taking it somewhere else now

What's the best Diy compression tester out there for the 2lte engines (ln130)?

I've found this but my mechanic said they couldn't do one because you need a bent pipe to go into the glow plug socket?

Your buying tools for your mechanic?
                          Fcuk that.
                          What's he on about?

                          Change your "mechanic"

I can't open the link you posted.
But every compression tester I have seen and or owned has a flexible line between the gauge and the adapter.
My original one did circa 1987
And my new one also has a flexible line.

No its not for him is for me, but he said he couldn't do one because it needs a right angled adapter that they have never been able to locate....
What brand is yours? Do you know the piece he is talking about?

                              Here is one on eBay
                              http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RDGTOOLS-H...-/350539100449
                              Should do the trick

Looks like it has the right size adaptor for the glow plug hole.

                              Have a look here.
                              http://www.hiluxsurf.co.uk/showthread.php?t=81813

I have no idea what the pipe he is on about?

I just don't follow the logic of buying a bit of kit to test your compression, something which you will probably(fingers crossed) only use once?
When your mech could do it for you?

It is way easier to do the compression test via the glow plug holes as opposed to taking out the injectors.

Yep, I'm seriously struggling with finding a good mechanic in my little town, I end up doing it all myself and cant trust any of them to do the work they were asked.
I dont know why it's so hard.
Well if I'm going to do an engine transplant in 2 months then I guess I may as well bu the compression tester...
