GPS has to be improved... how many times have you been on the A road alongside the Mway and the GPS tells you to turn off the motoray!?!...

farmer picking up a sheep (don't know why i thought of that example) in field alongside Mway getting charged £1.34 to drive on his own land!... they just don't do enough research before they announce new ideas!

I'll have to give up fags, beer and women!

This idea is a smoke screen for an as yet not discussed other scheme that they will hush through because people will think its actually good, when its really not, but is far better than this hairbrain idea.

I`d support an idea of paying road tax depending on your annual millage, say £10 per 1000 miles a year. That way the heavier users pay more for the upkeep. You could perhaps have a set price for HGV's to keep delivery costs down a little.

That will seem a piece of cake compaired to the GPS idea they have

The governement are starting to worry a little as they arre starting to realise they can`t tax fuel any further, so are looking for new ways to relieve us of our hard earned readies

Hey Guys ! Why worry ? We all own Surfs ? Take the short cuts !! Pay the Farmers ! Go accross instead of around ! Im sure they would welcome the income !

How many sat navs work off road ???

Also , Just a thought , If you break down say................ Cornwall.

And you want to get back up to here in Teesside via a Roadside Relay breakdown service. Would you be billed because your vehicle is being tracked all ov those miles ? Plus................... recovery prices will shoot !!

            Just a thought like
!!! I'M THE ONE YOUR MOTHER WARNED YOU ABOUT !!!

Agree it is probably a smoke screen for some alternative 'scheme'. Just think, if they said .........yeah we've heard the great public outcry so we'll just wack those non eco friendly 4x4s road tax up to £500 instead. Most of the public breathe a sigh of relief and we cop for it!

                Q....New Road Tax - Wot's Your Thoughts ?

                A....Bobbins !

                That's my view anyway.

I'm all in favour of abolishing road tax and putting it onto fuel, that's fair. The more miles you do ,the more fuel you use and economicly run your chosen vehical.

But charging for actually driving on a certain road at a specific time is rediculus.

Much easier idea to put extea duty on our already over inflated fuel costs.

Say you average 10,000 mls a year.

                10,000mls @ average 30mpg = 333.3 galons of fuel used.( we'd never do it !)

                333.3 = 1513 litres

                1513 litres @ 89p a litre = £1346

So why don't they just increase the price 11p to £1.00 a litre.

                1513 litres @ £1.00 a litre = £1513.

Diferance of £167.00, that's yer road tax !

                You get the idea,

I wish it was that simple, but it's bound not to be , with prices always going up and down ,wouldn't work for HGV's either, oh dear I think I have just shot my idea to bits, never mind, keep typing, my head hurts, too much thinking

                Andy.

typical of the state at the moment, just a way to sc#w more money out of those of us that can be arsed to be above board legal (visable to the system, easy to find) and go out to work. beside the fact that we all enjoy driving our Toys, how many of us do the bulk of our driving for pleasure? not many i'm sure, no we have to drive to/from/for work. tax us to much and we might as well give up.

Just had a thought ! ( and yes it hurt)

Someone mentioned something about it being a cover up for something else right ???

Well , the government wants to put us on a large database with the I.D Card thingy so that they are able to view a record of a person without having a criminal record, including a picture of them. DNA will be next.

My conspiracy theory is that the want to install tracking devices into every vehicle so that big brother can follow your every movement and see exactly where you go if they ever need intelligence via Spy Sat.

Thats what i reckon the cover up is !!

And yes, I have an escape tunnel in he floor of my study !!

Effectively as they are tied to keeping tax on Bio low for 7 years under EU directives, they will just make it impossible for us ECO friendly types to get hold hold of waste oil to recycle as bio fuel!!!

Gawd - what is the world coming to?

                        1. I was stopped driving my brothers recovery truck with a 3 piece suite on the back and asked if I have a waste licence. I was actually delivering it as a favour to a friends. That was because the truck has tax, insurance and came up with an owners name on the PNC.
                        2. Across the road from us (100 yds away thank goodness) a "homed traveller family" is breaking up to five cars a day in a residential street, transporting the scrap on an untaxed lorry (with hiab) and have been doing so for nearly a year.
                        3. A high sided pickup drives around the town seven days a week with a hand painted sign that says, "Old scrap iron taken away free." It is always loaded with fridges, freezers, washing machines, night storage heaters (asbestos?) and god knows what other scrap that is not environmentally friendly.
Nothing happens to those in para's 2&3 because it would be politically incorrect to challenge their lifestyle and probably, more to the point, allowing the local authority to shirk it's waste management responsibilities.
One of the take-aways that lets me have veg oil admitted they used to tip it down the storm drain before I and others started using it.

Another little point to add to your theory; there will be no need for speed cameras anymore, because satnav tracks your speed. Every speeding motorist will be caught!!!!

Isn't this type of scheme operated already in some of the scandanavian countries?

If i remember correctly many of the cars are logged for going on certain roads by overhead gantries...something like the paying for mileage that they tried to introduce sometime ago!!

I simply fail to express my views on this without bursting into expletive heaven.
I would like to quietly leave the room these idealistic unrealistic base morons play government in, and step outside to a real world where justice and common sense prevail. Where Landlords dont have to put special door handles that insulate workers hands against the cold on outside doors, and we are free to oh feck feck feck feck feck feck feck feck feck feck feck feck feck feck feck feck feck feck feck feck feck feck feck feck feck feck feck feck! now have me started.
