  • New Road Tax - Wot's Your Thoughts ?

The Government wants to abolish Road Tax and replace it with a Road Usage Tax. It could mean that you are paying up to £1.00 a mile on some motorways.

    Whats Your Views ???

It's a good idea if your annual milage is low. But.......... If U drive alot, It's gonna hurt !

complete waste of time and unthought out completely, it will be cheaper to fly everywhere!
I would go out of business pretty quick as would a lot of other people who drive a faird bit. Say you commute 30 miles each way on the motorway each day... worth going to work..? I think not.

If no one else starts a riot i'd be tempted!

There's a riot every Friday and Saturday night in Luton and most other towns. The government don't seem too bothered about that. If the price of petrol keeps going up we will need to come up with bio-Molatov Cocktails.

so with id cards. they got every ones fingerprints... with pay as you drive, they will know where you are all the time.... paranoia seems to be the way forward then..

The first time I heard an MP talking about abolishing car tax was in about 1989-90. The idea then was to add a bit onto the price of fuel such that an 'average driver' in an 'average car' (what ever they are) paid the same. It would save the government millions (think of the costs of administering car tax, the costs of dealing with non payers etc), it would be impossible to avoid, and we'd even get money off Johnny Foreigner.

I think the idea of taxing motorway useage is dead in the water. I know that it would just mean that I would use nothing but A roads, along with a lot of other people thus clogging them up.

(P.S. as someone who does government IT, chances of a large tracking computer system being on time, in budget, and working.... 0.000000% )
