  • Hi guys and gals
Getting my first surf this weekend (I hope) a 94 3ltr ssr-x and after my existing company (dare I say it SAGA, Yes I am over 50) refused to cover it. I tried several others untill I checked the forum and spotted Lifesure they quoted me £341 but I must have a cat1 immobiliser fitted (can this be just an immobiliser or are all immobilisers combined with alarms?) as I had already bought a scorpion alarm to fit myself.
I think the quote may have been even lower if it had not been for a boyracer attacking my rear offside wheel with his clapped out escort 11 months ago.
Anyway the chap who gave me the quote asked me to give them a mention on the forum and if he's reading this I hope you ring me up and tell me I don't need the cat 1 after all.

    Cheers
    Paul
Laugh!!! I nearly bought my own beer.

Direct line also require a cat 1 thatcham approved alarm / immobiliser be fitted, wouldn't cover my surf for theft or attempted theft without one , Just transfered the policy from my previous car so don't know what the annual cost is going to be yet

          • I think it all depends on who you speak to at the time.

            • I am 26, just got my Uk liscense but had another liscense before.
I usually ride motorbikes so have both insurance, no accidents, havent made any claims and experience that dont count for s^%t.

I called tesco and got quoted £1500 for a 2.4 surf, then I checked how much a mondeo 2.0 estate was and got quoted £1400. I was like WTF.

I have filled in the forms for lifesure and admiral and am waiting for quotes.
Do any of you have mods on your surfs? How much do the premiums increase?

                    • Make you premium cheaper

Just had renewal from direct line £350 full comp with car hire and legal cover. Thats for 5years ncb and 1 speeding.
Got quote from privilage for the same cover for £300 (£282 without speeding sp30)

Just a tip... if your insuring you toy soon....dont think that getting insurance just in your name is cheaper.....i saved nearly £70 a year by adding my girlfriend...granted your partner cant have loads of claims or it wont save you anything. By adding a female partner it reduces your premium as they think your partner will make you drive safer by giving you an ear full if you break the speed limits etc...
                      Happy insurance hunting folks

I've got a nasty feeling that if you change company mid-way through an insured period (year) you can't obtain any NCD for that year & that you have to start again from the date you joined the new company

I really hope I'm wrong, but this has happened to me in the past

Hopefully someone on here in the extortion & scam (sorry, insurance ) industry can shed some light.

                          Let us know.

                          • tried em all!!!

                            Contacted the full list.

Best I got was Tesco. £350 fully comp, me and the wife, she with 6 points and 2 claims.

                            2.4 manual surf.

A good trick is take a higher excess - reduces premium by a lot.

Also check what annual mileage they have you down for - that can make a difference to.
                            .......because I can....OK!

I dont see how they check mileage anyhow, if you put on the V5 under optional info then maybe but I never do.

You'd be surprised!! They have ways - they will look at your MOT cert - with the mileagte on it - and if you have exceeded the mileage they have covered you for - eg 6000 / 8000 / 10000 / 12000 per year - they will not cover your claim - or may you pay a penalty of x pence per mile over the declared annual mileage. The slugs will slime out of anything given a chance
