Sorry mate, it's just the old policeman in me. Having said that, when I was in the job the directions would have been by pubs

Postcode is DL17 8JN. Ferryhill to Whitby is approx 54 miles by road, I can't imagine Andys route being a great deal more.

Say 120 miles round trip, Ferryhill to Whitby, at 25 mpg (?). 5 gallons in total @ 1.20 a litre, call it £30 to round it up a little.

Of course you have to add your round trip from home to Ferryhill.

Derv is down to £1.15.9 at Morrisons in Bishop Auckland at the moment. Cheap as chips, well cheaper than chip oil.

Don't think it's anything rough mate. As Andy (NE Surf) says in the original post ... The route is basically made up of some easy going and rather nice, long, open, moor top green lanes, sceanic little towns and villages.
So don't expect anything more than a fairly easy run over the moors via green lanes. Basically I think it's just a good days run out to the coast.
