I cant accept that this is normal as most other users had said in my searches.

there must be a reasonable explenation for this issue, i will keep on working on it till i have it figured out, considering a manifold element conversion.

i retested my glow plug resistance today and the readings are 0.74 ohms and all the same, is this a normal reading, as i heard the ngk plugs are 1.3 ohms out of the box new, i did order some new bosch duraterm plugs any feedback on these bosch plugs, what would the ohms be on these bosch plugs?

The manual says 0.72ohmn @ 20deg c. Also if checking plug operation itself it says to only use 12 volt, theres a guide on here somewhere if you do a search on glow plugs but you'll have to trawl the posts.

causes of rough idle according to manual to be checked:
          Fuel filter
          engine ecu
          injection pump
          STA signal circuit
          throttle position sensor
          water temp sensor
          speed sensor
          injector nozzle
          fuel line air bubble/leak
          pre heat circuit
          crank position sensor
          valve clearance

hope this helps, I'll see if I can find a link to the manual for you. H

only code when performing a diagnostic is #11, im leaning towards the plugs as if i cycle the plugs a few times she starts very well, going to replace the fuel filter next weekend, it only runs rough and smoke a little when cold, if i start it whith in the next 3 hours its just fine, only when sits overnight.

I'd just replace them then don't think they are very expensive. H

i tested the ohms today on the bus bar when engine was hot, it read .20 ohms, in series they should read i am assuming 2.96 ohms, when the engine cooled down i read 2.96 ohms as it should be, would the heat effect the ohms this much? last time i checked the plug individually they tested at .72 ohms each with all the same readings, i still think there not functioning as required but will not know for sure untill i get my shipment of new plugs in the mail.

I think the ecu shuts down the power when engine is up to temp as they not needed. H

yes but the resistance of the glow plugs should not be effected by the ecu

i'm not a 100% convinced that what i'm going to say will be a fix for your vehicle as the symptoms are very similar to my own vehicle, when i had a fuel leak on one of the side plates on the injection pump, when it was left overnight and i tried to start it when the heater plug light went out, it would start then stop or it would misfire and be very lumpy with quite a lot of smoke out the exhaust, if i leave the heaters to cycle through and the relay click out it would start better but as you have said if i gave it a few cycles it would start properly, when the vehicle had been run it wuld start properly with no smoke that i could see, the fact i had a leak didn't enter my head until my vehicle was being serviced, i changed the injection pump as i didn't want my vehicle off the road due to waiting for parts to arrive after the injection pump was fitted it starts properly hot or cold so it might be worth investigating if you have a leak or pressure loss in the injection pump or the fuel delivery side as like i said my symptoms were very similar to what you have described and a non leaking injector pump fixed it straight off

is it possible that you may have a leak or its getting air in when left for a long period as i'm not sure what else could be at fault if you've tackled the most obvious culprits already

was doing some reading and came to find that maybe my egr system is to blame? I had blocked of the pipe, but i did not do anything else, what i read was i would have to disable the butterfly in the intake as this would choke the motor too much or let too much air in for cumbustion on cold start resulting in smokey and rough start, does this make sence and if so how do i remove this butterfly or disable it, thanks
