    That's 3

Anyways, cheers...I'm just trying to get some excitement back in my blood.

The 3.0L isn't too shabby for a truck...but I'm hoping the V8 really is a massive difference. It would be nice to burn some more cars

Mines re-geared to run 3.42 diffs for added long distance economy and will still pull away from 70 without thinking about it.

Cruise is around 15-1800 rpm, although I am thinking of dropping some 4.8 diffs back in, but not sure ican afford to replce the rubber they will burn

Oh and I went from 3.0 manual to 4.0 Auto

If you want sub seven second 0-60 times, then stay with 31" tyres.
33" tyres kill acceleration. Not noticable when kicking down at motorway speeds though.

          Thanks

It's a tough one as she'll have a suspension lift so 31" will look daft (they do a bit with just the 2" body lift).

But if 33" will kill acceleration...that's a serious point to bear in mind. Very serious.

How would you describe the difference in stock and conversion?

            On 33"s?
A bit better than stock, but once up 65mph the diesel runs out of horsepower where the V8 will just be getting into it's stride.
Remember it's a high revving engine so you'll need to keeps the revs above 3000 rpm to get the most out of it.

              But much better on 31"s?

So maybe 32" is a good compromise

Sylux, it's different, in a good way. Yes, faster, nice soundtrack, but the 3.0D isn't a slow coach pulling away either... As vince said, its once you're going the most noticeable difference in power is evident.
Mine "could" have gone off the clock if I had the cahoonas to match... as it was 3 figures was enough for me on 33" Khumo muds...

Talking of which, anyone seen Whitlinefever recently?

                      Thanks Wolfracer

I'm looking forward to the rolling pull away power

But I'll be very disappointed if the standing acceleration isn't much better...if I'm being honest. Not that I'd want to horse it too much...fuel costs etc.

                      Yeh, right

Thats where keeping your rolling circumference down will help... or re gear the diffs...

I find when driving Lexurf III down the Mway or A roads that it will sit there at 70 (yea as if anyone drives at 70 on the Mway) and it's only doing about 1500 > 1800 rpm . the engine is just tickling along, I think that it might be good for 140mph but i wont be trying that in mine, over 105 mph it shakes like hell, this does go away if you go faster but I won't be trying it again. But pull and pull this engine will do, it's almost rheostat like in the way you push more on the throttle and the horizon just gets closer with no drop off in pull.
What i would like to know is how many horses that one Vince is doing with the blower on it will be bangin out cos a mate told me these lumps are ok for 500 hp with no work needed to grank or conrod/piston , but after that you need to start spending serious money.

What's yours like from a standing start?

Mine's on 33" tyres, 4.88 diffs, 31/2" suspension lift and 2" body lift.
From a standing start there's 7+ seconds gone before It hits 60mph(closer to 8 than 7)
I think the 33"s hold it back a fair bit, I've got 31"s here but cant bring
myself to fit them, it just looks daft with all the lift.

I find 40mph is the magic number with this set up, floor it and it drops to
2nd, 4000rpm and it fly's, below that and it just pulls ok, nowt special.
45-50mph and floor it, it stays in 3rd, and your waiting ages for it to reach 4000rpm(70mph) then it pulls well, still nowt special.

Don't get me wrong its an awesome improvement on the 2.4 that came out
and I'm quite happy with it (fuel consumption aside) but you need to
remember these things weigh 2000+kg, last time on the weigh bridge at
work it was 2220kg, 250hp through an auto gets that moving nicely but its
                              not a race car.

If the surf weighed 1500kg's that would be a different story altogether.
                              Still on a mission.

Yea they are heavy old beasts to push along, mine is ok at getting up to speed but i get a fair bit of tyre spin if i stand on it right away, and I've got BF good's AT's 33's, it would obviously pull away quicker with a less agressive tread and smaller dia wheels/tyres on, i don't know about the gearing at the back axle it's an old 2.4 axle. I'm looking out for one of these engines/cars (LS400) to fit into an old MK2 Transit I have, though it's a long way off getting started, but i wonder what the LS engine would be like in say a Hilux pickup where the weight is a lot less, loads of wheel spin i expect. i find fuel consump about the same if you count the price of derv against petrol.
