Do I block off both parts of the egr as I can see two pipes? So I block off 4 ports in total? Correct.
I use the flanges and just weld blanks over the holes after cutting off the pipes.
Do I keep the lexus selector or does the surf work? Use the Surf gear selector assembly, but use the Lexus link rod.
Do I keep the lexus throttle cables? Use the Surf throttle cable. Leave the Lexus transmission cable as it is.
And what exactly do I need to send to you again? The complete engine/transmission loom (They are one unit) and the 28p ECU plug. (It's part of the dash wiring so just snip it off leaving about six inches of tails.)
Thanks in advance mate I'm sure your very busy,
Your advice is invaluable
So engine pretty much stripped now, next step remove t/belt.
Decided to do head gaskets seeing as it out of engine, be rude not to.
32 valves to lap! Can't wait !
Was messing about with the lexus auto box too today, I didn't have a 28mm or there abouts deep socket to remove the prop shaft coupler, so I decided to just cut off the nut and bearing cover, but now I'm worried I may have cut too much off?
Also a question for vince, do you spray the rocker covers with the high temp paint? Or is that just purely from cleaning and polishing? If so how do you do it?
Thanks guys :-)

Looks like there's still plenty of shaft left in that photo.

Ok so the lexus had a ATF cooler in the front behind the bumper, not sure if this is standard as it had a sticker on saying made in maidenhead?
Gonna use it in the surf which would then free up the ATF oil cooler on the radiator. So I'm thinking would it be beneficial to use the atf oil cooler on the rad to cool the oil? And would it work?
Thanks
LS400s never had an extra ATF cooler from the factory, just the one built into the bottom of the main engine rad.
You can plumb the Lexus auto 'box into your Surf's ATF cooler in the main rad, the same as the Surf's auto 'box is plumbed in, it works just fine.
If you're going to be towing a lot then use the auxillary cooler to help take out some of the excess heat before the main cooler.
You don't need an engine oil cooler, especially in a Surf as the sump will be more exposed than it would be in a Lexus and will get enough airflow around it.
Soarers (SC400) don't have one and the LS400 oil cooler is next to useless.
Don't forget the V8 is all aluminium so it's one big heatsink anyway.
Thanks Vince
Also where do get the remote oil filter plate that bolts to the block?
And all the fittings for the hoses?
That would be me, although I'll have to check if I have any spare.
An alterrnative is the fit the oil filter mount from a Soarer, (There's a Soarer breakers on eBay) they're different from the LS400 and position the filter more towards the front of the engine.
