I initially used a 2mm allen key which wasn't large enough to compress the tensioner enough, I re squeezed it and used a bigger one and that was cool.
My lower tensioner bolt thread was also dead, I used a 6mm time sert as unless you have the tangless helicoils that may cause a problem.

You often don't need to drill on a small stripped thread in aluminium, a nice new sharp tap will probably be fine if you go careful. Maybe even try just cleaning the thread thats there and use new bolts first.4x4toys.co.uk - Keeping you on and off the road...

Why not measure the original bolts? Can you post a pic of these bolts and the dimensions. I doubt that they are anything but a 1.25mm pitch.
Do the bolts have a non threaded section? If they do then they probably don't screw into the alloy timing cover but rather the block.
Cleaning the thread is the first thing I would do. Spray some degreaser in the holes and blow out with compressed air.

Looks like they are a fully threaded class 8 flanged bolt. If the size is 6mm then it will be a 1.25mm pitch. All you need to know is the length.

In the timesert kit I used a tap with T little tap holder, I took the fan out but from memory left the rad in.
If you're taking the fan out you could refill the silicon oil.
The radiator is only four bolts, plus it means you can give it a good flush.
The bolts WERE 6mm I think either 20 or 25mm.

yes fully threaded, pretty sure they screw into timing gear cover,
they have the no. 8 on them, it's a 10 mm head, so the thread is 6mm then???

but anyhoo so you didnt drill? just tapped a new thead and put in insert
in? checked thread length and its 20mm.

Seems a few Surfs have been tackled by cowboys, trying to line up the tensioner with the bolts and stripping the threads, just keep on winding till it goes tight.Alan
