Looks like there's an insulator missing from under that nut.

      Thanks Vince

Is that the insulator that looks like a top hat? Mine is blue, if it is, it's there but further down. I was thinking that maybe the cable terminal should be further down the stud, possibly over the top hat style insulator. Would this be correct?
If so, the cable terminal would then sit on top of the buzz bar to create the connection but would be isolated from everything else?

You want power going to the glowplugs only, not direct to earth!!

          Great, thanks again.

It's one of those things whereby the more you look at it, the more it looks wrong.

          Job for tomorrow then............

Well, wired the glow plug insulator / power supply the right way, replaced the fuse and connected the batteries, put the key in, turned it, and........................... ..... it started!

            WooHoo

ran rough for a couple of minutes then levelled out, stopped it and replaced the covers on the fusebox, bolted it back in, tried it again and it fired right up again.

So, now that I've made it go, I can concentrate on making it stop and start replacing brake pipes.

For those of you who haven't seen it yet, the below pic is how it looked when I bought it.

              Woo-hoo indeed!

Is that a clown's car you're parked next to in the photo?
