I regulaly get between 20 and 21 mpg, the most ever was 22, and the lowest 18. It's had a major service, and regular 'millers'.

I've just accepted that for a 2 ton brick it does a pretty good job of shoving all that air out the way, and it was a very good excuse to purchase a bike for communiting (50mpg anyone and doesn't get stuck in ques).

Linda's used that in the Bullet for nearly a year now, no one could catch her on the motorway!!

Blew a headgasket last month though, so the octane booster seems to be good stuff!

Cetane Number is a measure of the ignition quality of a diesel fuel. Often mistaken as a measure of fuel quality it is actually a measure of a fuel's ignition delay. This is the time period between the start of injection and start of combustion (ignition) of the fuel. Higher cetane fuels will have shorter ignition delay periods than lower cetane fuels.

Another plus point for Vegoil, it has a higher Cetane rating than Diesel !!

          Fuel Consumption

My 92 2.4 td does about 28 to 30 mpg at asteady 70 on the motorway, as soon as you start cruising up to the 80,s you start to guzzle. the smoking sounds dodgy though.

Have you considered researching duel fuel conversion using veggie oil. This can halve your costs. l have just bought a kit so when it's fitted and tested I'll report back.

          Meanwhile, Enjoy.

            Fuel Consumption

My 3ltr.with a reasonably light foot will do 25mpg with local driving conditions, and I can achieve 30-35 mpg whilst towing my caravan (13cwt).With new fuel and air filters recently fitted,I believe I may be able to improve on this.Surely - apart from driving style - power to weight ratios come into this somewhere ?

Wow! that shot of 'power plus' has made a big diference, now when I start there is no puff of unburnt fuel (grey smoke) and when I booted it on a roundabout no cloud of black smoke, for once I think the geeky lad in 'Auto Care' was right, it does seem to clean the works up

Blimey.. and I thought mine was thirsty. I'm getting around 400-425 miles per tank and a tank is costing me £42 from Tescos and thats both motorway and short runs.. I dont think I will complain anymore now..!

Maybe you are counting in kilometres! I am in the middle of my "test" at pres.the tank is half full, and I have 268 kilos on the clock.

That's about the same as what I get for my 3.0Litre, well unless she is on a run then 300km is nearer the mark, and she will end up about 400km for a tank.

One thing we did discover when we had the engine apart to do the head gasket was that the injectors were shagged. 3 new nozzles and 1 whole injector later (apparently mine were the worst they have even seen) there is a marked improvement in performance (yes - the Bullet is actually FASTER ) and the MPG is improved - only on the 2nd full tank but definately a couple of MPG better than before.

                          Diesel consumption

                          I have a 1992 4Runner 2.8D with 326000 km. Diesel consumption is 9.5/10 km/litre, not bad heh?
Mine used to smoke terribly and even after I had the injectors done, she still smoked. The biggest improvement came when I changed type of diesel used - big difference.
I've seen a couple of things that make the turbo diesels smoke and a leaking exhaust manifold gasket is one of them, even a small leak anywhere in the system can cause a loss of backpressure and the turbo can't spool up quick enough.
Also check for dragging brakes, especially drum brakes at the rear.

You'll probably find that although your speedo reads MPH your trip meter and odometer are still recording kilometers. Mine are, and like yourself I get between 400 and 424 per tank, but that is km's.

My wife has managed to get 525km out of £40 of diesel which works out to about 33miles to the gallon. Not bad
