yes he replaced fuse, as the old one was burnt to high heaven, so hes not just told me he has, i can physically see he has. so u say try one jump lead from positive terminal direct to bus bar? will it spark or something how will i know if that actually does something?

is there a way of testing the glowplugs individually without removing them?

Yes you would see a spark if they are working,

Remove the 4 nuts from the top of the glowplug, the long metal bar (the busbar) will come free, using a multimeter on the resistance scale attached 1 lead to ground (ie cylinder head) and the other to the threaded portion where you removed the nuts, there should be a reading, no reading means a duff plug.

Unless your multimeter can use an 8 and 10mm socket, no it can't, you'll have to remove the bus bar yourself. Then you can use the multimeter to check the resistance of each plug.

update,

using multimeter, one to positive battery, other to buzzbar, when relay licked on went upto just over 12v then relay clicked then went.

so supply to buzz bar ok.

then removed buzzbar, and each glow plug, tested them all with a 12v battery and they glowed away like theres no tommorow.

now what!!!!

a fuel problem? filter? lift pump?

i did notice there was a bit of oil in the air intake, noticed this when removed all the gear above the glow plugs

If you get 12v between the Busbar and battery positive, there's a fault. It should be 10.5 volts then 6.5 volts between the Busbar and battery negative.

Did you check the resistances? Just because they glow, doesn't mean they're OK. They probably are, but you need to check the resistances to be sure.

Go back and check properly.

It's more likely to be something in the glow plug circuit.

checked all the above, and as it should be.

one thing that makes me think is when turning key, the instrument panel light only comes on for about 3-4 seconds,

to me thats not long enough for it to get its optimum heat range.

when i tested the plugs individually, with a 12v battery, using jump leads, it took about 7-8 seconds to proper glow,

Perfectly normal. Stormy is referring to the second relay clunk you'll hear if you wait, which is followed by a beeping sound.

Ten seconds or so *after the glowplug light* goes off. Do try to actually read at least one bit of advice you're given thoroughly. Not being nasty when I say this mate, but you have such a knack for completely not paying attention to anything which anyone writes that it's more painful than having teeth pulled, trying to help you out. If you want advice, at least have the bl00dy decency to actually read and understand it.
