  • coolant system again

right just put new stat and rad cap on topped up coolant put both heaters on full started engine let it warm up and it got to just under half way but the heaters are still cold and i also still have white'ish smoke coming out of exhaust on tick over and when i turned off the engine coolant poured out of the header tank. someone please tell me it's not bad news

It's bad news, by the sounds. Heaters could still be airlocked. How much white
smoke, exactly? With regards to chucking coolant when switched off, that
    sounds unusual.

hard to tell how much smoke because it is dark outside

If the smoke is hard to see, then it sounds normal. If it was coolant in the exhaust trust me, you WOULD have noticed it!
You need to run the engine with the rad cap off for a while, topping up if necessary. Then switch off and leave for an hour or two and re-check the level. If it has dropped then top up again and leave for another half hour.
If the coolant can still be seen in the thermostat housing, then all the air should have escaped and you can re-fit the rad cap.

When topping up the coolant, make sure the truck is on level ground, if that is not possible, make sure it's facing uphill.

You are topping the coolant up via the rad cap, aren't you, and not popping
          it in the expansion tank.

Good call Matt, if that was the case, then when the engine coolant expanded it would have pushed it all out.

Something does sound wrong about that problem description. Plus, I do
seem to be getting to know the cooling system on an intimate level of
late. That fault definitely isn't normal.

Deffinateley putting coolant in the rad cap, not the expansion tank. How long does the engine need to be running with the rad cap off when bleeding the system?

If starting from cold, untill the temp gauge starts to move off the cold section.

When you replaced the thermostat, you did put the little hole to the top,
didn't you? Have you drained off all the coolant, or just some to do the
                    thermostat replacement?

                      Jiggle valve.

For reference the part number for a QH thermostat, 88 degree for the 2.4 engine is QTH321

                      Equivalent number :MTO321

Yes, put new thermostat in exactly as it came out, with the hole at the top. Only coolant was what came out when I took the old stat out.

Have been bleeding the system and filling it up, but seems to be kicking out just as much as I have been putting in! Still no heater working.

So neither the front nor rear heaters are working, or just the front?
