Don't want to get involved in any politics here...
Just my thoughts.
I'd like to see as many sources for parts as possible, so I can make my own mind up where I want to buy. There are also some things RT don't sell, so if someone else does, that's good to know.
Have some sympathy for Barry, his market, ie us, is getting smaller and smaller as there are fewer and fewer Surfs and 4Runners around. At some point he may have to call it a day as it won't be worth his time running the business any more.

In this modern age of instant searches for products from all over the world it is in my opinion up to any retailer of any product to make some effort to gain new and to keep their existing customers. Repeat business normally far outweighs new business and news of crappy service/quality etc travels much faster and wider than good news. Those that make little or no effort in doing either quite frankly deserve to go out of business. That may sound harsh but that is my opinion and it applies to ANY place I choose to spend my money.
With so many established retailers these days they seem to have this mightier than thou attitude, you just can't have that these days, it's the 21st century and people WILL go elsewhere if they feel they might get a better price/service/attitude/quality etc etc from another company.
All I am doing is locating potential outlets where buyers can then make up their own minds as to where they want to buy from. I shall continue what I'm doing and I'm glad you appreciate the effort T4R. Not every place I find will be cost effective to buy from, but each person has different circumstances and what doesn't work for one may work well for another.

i work 5 mins away from Rough trax, which was a major factor in my decision to buy a surf. as i am not a mechanically minded person, i rely on the help and advice of more competent people, and as such i have found this forum and its knowledgeable people to be a great help. (many thanks to you all)
being able to pop into one of the countries major supplier of surf parts on a lunch break, and get friendly advise, from helpful people, who are passionate about their work, is a service that is invaluable, as far as im concerned.
im sure that there are cheaper suppliers out on the net, their always will be, but would i get the service that i get from Rough Trax ?? maybe.maybe not.
i choose to stick with PROVEN good advice, and exceptional service, the latter being increasingly hard to find these days, in any service sector.

Wow, I am surprised that anyone could get upset about such a small event.
RT are very much aware of the ease of sourcing parts via the net and I am sure they try to be as competitive as possible. The service they also provide is advice and knowledge, invaluable to some of us who are part time mechanics. This is their business, not a mates rates shop.

Possibly
But I couldn't/shouldn't comment more.
I think the OP has a good idea of posting up alternatives for cheaper parts, but the first link he posted for drop links are still way more expensive than is on offer from more conventional sorces.
He would have had a better received reception if he hadn't slated a supplier without facts to back up his grievances
The previously mentioned email trail he referenced has not appeared.
Make of that what you will.
Allegedly .

LHD Headlamps bought and delivered direct from chris@genuineserviceparts.com
Cheaper than BB's lamps AND they came with the bulbs included (which BB's don't). Of course, anyone who feels obligated or is dumb enough to pay the higher price then off you go! I will post the part numbers here later should anyone else want to buy a set without being taken the p155 out of. Chris will also try to beat the price for any genuine parts that you find elsewhere.
Also, another breaker who just sold me a genuine ECU for £75 and deserves a mention for his no mess, non p155 taking prices is William; greasemonkey13uk@yahoo.co.uk Great service from him and the fact he is not just following in the other t0553rs footprints who over price their parts he really does deserve a special mention. He's currently got a 1996 3rd Gen, plus he also breaks other 4x4's and will help you track a part down via his contacts if you require.Last edited by the silver surfer; 13 April 2015, 20:53.
