Facebook has killed off some of the other forums I was on.

"Sailor V", as I saw written the other day.

Not too sure about that in relation to this forum. I've had a Farcebook page, for ages, and didn't really use it. ( Too much " I've just had a bottle of wine, and now I'm going to make some beans on toast and go and take some pictures of my toenails which I will post later.). I re visited farcebook last week out of sheer boredom. within 20 minutes I'd had enough, and can't see myself going back there for another 2 years, or so. I agree that this forum has become a bit boring / quiet, but some of the regulars are either on holiday, or just have more important or interesting things to do at the moment. Maybe people are becoming a little more reluctant to speak their minds, or can't be bothered in case they get ridiculed. maybe it's just cyclical, and things will pick up again. maybe everyone has exhausted all of the questions that they wanted to ask, and the points that they wanted to make.........Perhaps we need more trolls / buffoons to entertain us and enliven proceedings ? .

I'll wade in with my two pence,as I am never confrontational or outspoken on any subject.
I find it bewildering when an opinion is voiced and the self appointed forum do gooders comment in reply totally missing the original point of the thread.

At least with Thrugi he/she was consistent.
For all those who think the forum is a bit quiet, perhaps they should start a "bring back Thrugi" campaign.

I had better add a winking smilie so all the people who have had a humour bypass will know that most of this is said in jest.

Who are the "Self appointed forum do gooders", Ady ? Also, who is it in this thread, that you feel has missed the point of the OP ? Also, also, I also miss "Thrugi". If it was up to me, there's quite a few "Meltdowners" that I'd bring back. Many of them were most entertaining, and quite hilarious. .

Perhaps it's the meltdowns that put people off.. Yes it can be amusing, but it can also make people hesitate to post for fear of being targeted.

I'm a mod on another forum and not only is it very busy, but the amount of comments the forum gets about helpfulness and friendliness is staggeringly high.

Before anyone jumps up and down I'm not saying it is not friendly and I certainly have been given plenty of help. There are just times when I notice the red button type of thing is either ignored or laughed at. I have also spoken to others who have left the forum for these reasons.

Yes, text speak gets on my nerves as does the same question being asked again and again, but I only know the answer now because someone took the time to tell me. That means as a mod I will answer the simple stuff in the hope the person will stay on the forum and build their knowledge. Which is usually the case.

I could be shooting myself in the foot with this post as I have given up my job as planned after a year of dealing with the rich and stupid and am now planning the big trip in the surf... Anyone up for answering questions when I'm away??..
                      .... Which was nice.

It was a general observation Mick, with reference to your post about people being ridiculed for being outspoken., with which I am in agreement with.
I wonder if sometimes, people are, like you mentioned reluctant to speak their minds.
I for one would like to feel free to be more vocal with my replies, but I feel there are far too many that are a bit touchy.

Some times people get misunderstood, the subtleties of the spoken word and facial gestures are often missed.

I know what you mean, but I am probably a self appointed do-gooder (who else appoints them?).

This forum is not heavily moderated and tends to be kept under control with an element of mob rule. Not necessarily a bad thing (I have seen some where the majority of posts seem to be from mods laying down the law), but it can be intimidating. Still, we have this discussion annually and nothing ever changes, so I don't think it's a problem.
