Very nice compound cuts on the jacks, suprised there is only one board on the hip (usually two nailed together over that length) but that doe'snt take away the fact that it is a nice piece of work.

All timbers are tanalised, but it was a bugger getting those ceiling rafters in 9" x 2" as they needed to be 6.3mtrs long!!www.amcbs.webeden.co.uk www.xjrestorations.co.uk

Theres nothing more satisfying than working on and finishing a cut roof, its a shame that most of them get covered over and never seen , especially hip roofs, I assume that the size of those ceiling joists were in anticipation of a loft room being built, mind you the rafters would'nt spread nailed to them. . Have you ever done any hips with dragon ties on the corners?

Well with the help of my brother and my mate we made great progress today.
I also got the door mounted in position, Alan drilled and tapped the catnic so we could bolt the brackets to it instead of the block.
Just the corners to infill in the roof, trim the overhangs and fit the fascia under board and the felt can go on.
Looking like a roof now
Alan's brackets in place
Me admiring our work

Thanks fellas.
Well Alan came over and helped yesterday and I dodged away for most of today on my own. It won't win any joinery awards unlike tinitins beautiful work earlier in the thread, but it is strong. However, I now understand the concept of a hipped roof and I have enjoyed putting it together. I have one back corner to finish and then some joists to fit to help tie it all together.
If anyone is thinking of taking on a small project like this I would say do it, I knew next to nothing about concrete slabs, roofs and building in general before I took the plunge. Goggle is handy as are all the lads on here with previous knowledge or trade expertise. {if you are doing a hip roof, download a compound cut calculator and hire a table saw} I didn't
So next weekend will see me finish that one corner, fit the tie down alloy straps, fit some joists, then trim all those overhangs ready for the fascia and soffit boards.
