I'd think you could pick something up quite cheaply for the sort of things you'll be looking at Vince. You don't need high speed or resolution really.

We have several in our 'junk' room which will eventually be 'recycled' - but when is another matter!

Hang on there's a picture missing. Which one is in the photo; a pup or an O-silly-scope?

What I was getting at was the fact that these things need calibrating fairly regularly and this is unlikely to have happened with a privately owned one.

If your not too bothered about accuracy then it should be ok but the dot on the screen may have "burnt in".

There's plenty of virtual ones for sale now that plug into you PC and do the job,

the word hertz is the continental word that took over from the british standard of cycles and counts frequency (the No of oscillations per seconds above and below zero) , for instance the 240 mains supply in the uk is operating at a frequency of 50 hertz (cycles) per second, and another instance radio waves are measured in hertz.

For what you need to do, I doubt you need it calibrated. But I can *probably cal it for you if you don't mind popping up with it.

Thanks for all the help everyone, but I have now been given three oscilloscopes, two are CRT dual trace and one Pico type.
