More interior mods!

I bought the 3mm ones off ebay that Albannach posted looking at doing all the interior lights (once Ive got my head around it!) so bought 100.

So - when I join the pos to neg legs on each row do these get poked through the board and soldered to the copper row underneath?

The only reason I ask is would this mean that for every joined pair if four rows are running one above the other wont the power run in parallel across the rail therefore linking the rows effectiveley linking the LEDs in a grid?

The LED designer from Popeye's post has made it clearer although it started to churn out data regarding resistors?

Being slightly smaller than the ones on yours Apache would using 5 in series for each row (If space) cause any problems?

5 in series will be dim. Stick with 4.

You know, you can wire them as you thought, in a sort of matrix. The disadvantage is that if any one in a row blows, the other three in the row will blow too as they will be sinking more current.

You can also wire each one individually with a series resistor, using the ones supplied with your LEDS...

Ill go with the matrix style set up as the last thing I want is for it to wind up dim.

Good. Try 4 in series, and connect it to 12V, just to check your method. Then just add LEDS in parallel sets of 4.

A matrix isn't the most elegant way to do it, but as they are current devices, they'll share current quite happily - unless one blows, which then means the in that row have to carry a third more current to satisfy the others in the chain. I suppose it's failsafe!

These pics have just inspired me to have a go! I have a led festoon bulb in the back of my 2.4 and it's nowhere near as bright as your ones.

Ive changed my mind & think they look rubbish, i would'nt want them in my truck.

They certianly light up the inside! you could hold a premier league football match in there definatly doing this as i've mostly gutted the inside so now's the time, (love the carefull placeing of the multi-meter for that "expert at work" look

That was just me figuring out what the hell Toyota did to make the rear door switch work! Both lines are at +12V when the tailgate is closed, and one goes to 0V when the tailgate is open - and there's a separate earth too.

As someone who's done a fair bit of electronics design, its not the first way of doing it that sprung to mind - but I suppose it's logical in an automotive electrics way!

Not having played with LED's since the mid 90's do these super bright LED's
give off any heat as such ?

And whats the current draw of 3 rows of 4 compared to standard lamp ?
