I`ve always bought diesel in cash amounts £20 £40 etc and i`ve got so used to it over the years the price rise has gone virtually unnoticed but inspired by this post i`ve just gone and got 40 litres, cost me £54 and i`m stunned. The change from gallons to litres has made the price rise more acceptable
            £6.14 a gallon

I'd agree, but I wouldn't be able to get to work anymore.

That was in the days when diesel was a fraction of the price of petrol now its well more expensive. Must be much better than the diesel was then tho eh
In FEB 1971 when Britain went to decimal from the old pounds/shillings/pence I took a photograph of a petrol pump with the new decimal price on it. 37 pence per gallon. ( We hadnt quite got the hang of litres and kgs at that time). Mind you in 1971 a decent family saloon could be had new for 1500 pounds and the average house price was 5600 pounds and the average weekly wage for men was 28 pounds ( only posh folk had salaries back then)

As i`ve bored everyone with before. Mine has got what they call a zapper fitted, its on the lowest setting of three and easily pulls 20 mph on the flat, rising to a scarey 24 sometimes 25 on a good day downhill with the wind behind you but there is one in our place that does 40mph on the flat, rekon i`d get at least 30 miles to a full charge, maybe more
