However, unless you have a domestic heating oil tank, you would have to buy it from a supplier in smaller (25 litre ?) drums, for which they charge more, but it's definitely worth looking at. It's still illegal though
thats the problem iv had, most suppliers of WVO, Bio only sell it it stupidly large quantities...

while im on, Is it true that adding 2 stroke oil to normal diesel gives better MPG??

Heating oil has a chemical marker, in the same way that red diesel has one. Red diesel only has a dye so it's easier to tell what it is on the likes of a farm where they may bunker 'red' and normal diesel.

If I were using heating oil as a fuel, I'd not be discussing it here.
Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's

There are thousands of houses with oil fired heating around here. If I put a 1000L tank in my back garden, nobody would bat an eyelid.

I'm sure there are loads of users on the forum who are taxed much higher than me but after paying £700+ a month in Income tax and NI and then 20% VAT on everything else, I'm rapidly getting pi**ed off with paying about 80% fuel duty + VAT on pump diesel too. I suppose its just one of the joys of living in rip-off Britain. We used to get public services and an NHS in line with the amount we're taxed but now that any Tom, Dick or Harry is allowed into the country on a bogus student visa, we're paying twice as much tax for half the standard of living.

Yes, it might, a bit, but it costs more. Some swear by it. The only way to know is to put a bit in, see if it makes any difference then do the maths to see if it's worth it.

I can understand that. Just highlighting that it would be illegal to put heating oil in a vehicle, in case someone didn't know.

I would tend to agree with Albannach ( even though it was me who started it) about using an illegal fuel. Mine has now run dry, and the tank is being removed, so it's back up to SVO prices, plus some derv since it's still cold, all above board.
Ross, aye, all very well for the tax dodging millionaires who run the country to drive around in Rangeys and Jags, all expenses paid by us, whilst humping us at every turn.

Ah well, back to the drawing board. Thanks for the heads-up.

Sorry Adam, wasn't having a pop at you, this country drives me to despair at times.

Definitely! Get it tested first though as you don't know wtf is in it and it could have your injector pump lying dead in the engine bay on the first tank.

Totally legal, no work involved, sounds fantastic.
Just try to run into it gently, then maybe only a quarter tank pure, just to make sure she's going to run fine on it !

might be a silly question, but how/where do i get it tested?

Do a search on Google and you'll find exactly what needs to be looked at. The main ones are residual methanol and fatty acids as far as I know.
