Intercooler, more boost, remapped ECU, higher fuel bill... more heat into an already inadequate cooling system, so bigger radiator, better fans...

Just buy a 3.0 and have done with it!

By the way, I very much doubt the ECU will be remappable. It's pretty ancient technology. If you're going to do it properly, you'll probably want a configurable gearbox ECU too for 'harder' changes or all you're gonna do is heat up the torque converter more.

In short, you're not going to get worthwhile increases without spending. Its not renowned for being a tuneable engine.

didn't think it would be remapable and think i'll just put the cooler on as already got it and put the rest of the money into the v8 pot for way down the line

Depends on how much fuel you can put in, the temperature of your exhaust gasses, and what you have done to fool the ECU.
                    Oh Nana, what's my name?

That's because the only way to ever get a 2.4 to go quick is down hill. The steeper the gradient the better.

If you want really quick use a cliff.

So you're looking for better fuel economy and want to fit a V8? It doesn't add up mate.

Can you get loads of power from a 2.4 without spending money, whilst getting more mpg and without blowing it up?

                            NO!!!!
