    I wish I'd been there to see how the Spanish chaps got mine off! Having seen the old bearing, they'd been at it with an angle grinder - I do hope thats all they used!

      Cutting it without heat would be the way to do it.
      I think you'll be fine Andy if they used a grinder.

          yeah, cutting is still a chore without nicking the 1/2 shaft.

          I made a copy of the special tool out of 1/2 an old axle casing, bolt it to the bearing carrier, pop it in the press and hey presto, one unstressed or damaged axle shaft.

            agreed, but if caught out with limited tools then grinder would be preferable to heat.
